LPG/CNG kits will they damage engines?

Hello,

Noob with a noob question.

I'm looking to fit an LPG/CNG kit on a 3 series BMW from 1990. Is this OK?

Would it be possible to damage the engine in the long run?

All inputs much appreciated! Thanks!

I've seen pictures of an LPG kitted BMW 5 series in UK.
So, U can very well do it.

Just remember that the installer/tuner is the most important variable in the equation.
Bad installation/tuning will lead to guaranteed premature engine failure.

Hello!

Esteem_Lover it's laid up in Auroville

Nitrous - thanks for that! Would you know of any expert installers / tuners in Chennai?

Phamilyman - just exploring if this is an option for me...I gather if done well it should be OK...I would hate to trash this car..

I am running a 97 zen with a Lovato lpg kit for the past 2 years, gives me phenominal average with marginal drop in performance. No issues with the engine so far.

Make sure you get it installed from an authorised dealer who knows his stuff and you should do just fine.

The National Lovato distributor who's based in Chennai is reputed for the bad installations they do.
A friend of mine who got an LPG kit installed on his OHC VTEC was totally unhappy about the quality of work and it was plagued with problems.
IIRC, harmon_bro also got his lancer LPG'd there and isn't all smiles about it.

Summary: An authorised dealer/installer is NOT necessarily good.
