Congratulations for getting your hands on one of the best cars ever to have been sold in India.

Comparing performances of your Esteem (with perf plugs, filters and FF) is not fair.

The OHC VTEC is in its own class and boasts of the highest power output of a 1.5 ltr engined car, even today, three years after it has been discontinued.

Enjoy it and take good care of her.

Congrats on the Vtec, malcolm. The Vtec is an awesome machine and will keep you happy for a long time to come.

Start with basic modifications and go one-by-one. I'd suggest having a look at the Team-BHP modifications article to understand each state of tune better.

Also, do search within the forum. A lot of us Vtec owners have posted threads on basic, medium and full blown modifications.

great buy..absolutely fantastic performance..And malcolm, enjoy the power of dreams..

Congratulations on the new car Malcolm, she's sweet to drive, isn't she?!!

As for your questions: 1st gear speed about 50-odd km/h
2nd gear 90-odd km/h
3rd gear 150-odd km/h

Yes, she's much faster than a Esteem in accelaration & top speed which should be around the 190-195 km/h mark.

Congratulations !!! well you must have got all the info you needed by now.neway treat her nicely and she'll do the same :) safe driving !!

Hey congrats dude, welcome to the VTEC club!!!

I can understand the performance diff you must be feeling between the Esteem and the Vtec. (Our previous car was an Esteem as well).

Looks like you've been concentrating more on the tacho than on the speedo. Hehe

At redline (7100rpm), this is what my car reads.
1st - 58kmph
2nd - 98kmph
3rd - 150kmph

58 in 1 st gear:Shockked: ...is it safe to go at that speed in 1st gear? will it cause any damage to the engine if I do it regularly?

I guess its safe to floor the accelerator once in a while. Of course, you need to be careful while doing it. A well maintained engine could handle it.

Congrats, Malcom. Definitely a smart buy.

Heres a great thread >

Nope, there won't be any probs the engine and gearbox is designed for it, but don't try doin it on another car that hits it's redline before 58kmph.

Hey congrats on the OHC VTEC!!

You have a piece of history in your hands.

Cars were made and are made, with new technologies, one completely different and better from the other, or may be just with an extra cup holder here and there.

Then again there are a very few badges that make a great piece once in a while perfectly suited for a particular country and a particular purpose.

The OHC VTEC is one of that. No one can deny it.

Drive safe, with great power comes great responsibility too :)

Hey! Congrats on your car. A stunning piece of machinery. How much did you dole out for it? Which color?

BTW guys, another team-bhpian from Blore picked up a 2002 Vtec last month. I'l let the owner come and post the details himself.

Looks like the VTEC is more in demand now, than when it was being produced.
