Instead Of Upgrading ,can We Downgrade Rims!

well... its a chewed topic abt upgrading the stock rims!

i have indica turbo dlx which is due for tyre replacement.

indica dlx comes in ( 165/65 r 14) and dls come in ( 165/65 r 13)!

i am really not happy with indica suspensions. will it help if i put on my dlx R 13 instead of R 14 and then increase profile to say 75.

i think then i can go for combination of (175/75 r 13)

what are the pros and cons of smaller rims and this combination!

please help me with your guidance

the taller sidewall will give you a softer ride. at the same time the handling (cornering abilities) of the car will become slightly worse.

since you're upgrading to a wider tyre, the grip might get a bit better.

Hi,

The 13 inch OEM combination gave my DLE better ride than my Marina's 175/65R14. But the 13 inch tyre will lead to rim bends and so alloys would be better.

I assume it is for making it ride better. If you increase the aspect ratio, your handling may suffer.

If for ride, you could try the 165/80R13 Palio 1.2 OEM tyre. With this tyre even the steel wheels may not bend.

I have seen Indica's shod with this tyre. Have not used them personally, though.

I am not one who deviates from the OEM specs in case of wheel tyre combinations. I suffer too because of that.

Recently, I did drive an Indigo GLX with 185/65R14 tyres and it was definitely a better ride. But it had its suspension work done just before I used it. The same wheels on my Marina (switched for trial run) did not make much of a difference in ride.

But the sidewall definitely will be taller and should make a difference.

Hi,

Two months, 2502kms - the journey has been quite smooth so far. Running it a little more instead of it s friend, my Marina, to see the mileage it will give under different drivers and under different driving conditions.

The last tank full gave 15.15kpl over 182kms, 62kms by my driver and the rest by me. The runs were mainly on out of town roads.

AC on 100% and auto, I am happy with the mileage.

The only grouse is in most cars that I have used, by this mileage, I am fairly sure about what my tank will take to fill in relation to the guage reading. But the City guage has foxed me. The 10th anniversary guage has 11 small marking between E and half and another 11 markings between half and F. The tank took 12.01 litres to the brim when the needle was between 4th and fifth marking from F after 182kms.
