Hey Vengeance,

It depends on the extent of your modifications.
The VTEC is great if you plan to do the mods listed above by dragger.
However, if you plan to turbocharge or extensively play with the head/cams maybe a 1.5 would be a better option (especially in india) ?
Im sure Dom could put in the final word.

Yup, we'd better leave this topic to Dom. But for the record, the fastest FWD car in the world happens to be an Integra with a H22A (Prelude) engine, the car is tuned by Apex-i. It produces around 650 bhp (from a 2.2ltr engine) and does the 1/4 mile in 8.84 secs.

GENERAL
Production time 2000 Base in Honda Integra
Layout Front engine / Front drive Tires GOODYEAR
Length 4400 mm / 173.2 in Width 1840 mm / 72.4 in
Height 1230 mm / 48.4 in Weight 830 kg / 1826 lbs
Engine Honda H22A Wheelbase 2591 mm / 102 in
Displacement 2200 cc /134.3 cu in Gearbox X-TRAC 6speed S/Q

Power 650 bhp / 485.0 kw @ 6000 rpm Torque 600 nm / 444.4 ft lbs @ 5200 rpm

1/4 mile time - 8.84secs

U bet, actually the tyres will need to be upgraded to prevent those unwanted wheel spins.

You plan to burn the road man? That is mooree than enough! But one piece of serious advice put some nice wiiide rubber on this machine... the city is way to light to handle that much power.

Vengeance,

If you are looking at serious modifications, I would suggest a regular 1.5 exi. I have heard from more than one source that the Vtec engine is very sensitive to bad modifications. With the after-market industry being what it is in India, I dont think you want to sit on a 10 lac rupee piece of immovable metal.

Go for the regular 1.5...

Very true, infact one off the tuners in Blore warned me. He said that the Vtec can be tuned to a large extent, but if the person doing this doesn't know much about Vtec engines, i'll end up buying a new engine.

If you really wanna get it tuned, you'l have to contact Mugen, HKS or Apex-i. Hehe

For mods in India, you'd be better off with a City 1.5.

Hello,
The 1.5 will be a cheaper alternative. There are tons of things you can do.
The D16A8 civic head is a direct bolt on, pick up the intake manifold too. It will give some serious gains. You will need some kind of engine management too to cope with the way the new manifold will be reading. Other things you can do is, you get tons of cams, valves, springs, sprockets for the head part. Also RS motorsport makes sleeves for the D15B similar to the block here, you could pick up the sleeves, get Arais and eagle rods and pistons. The bottom will be able to handle a peak of 2 bar boost. A company names 'DRAG' makes good bolt on turbos, it includes everything.

Now back to the original question, is a vtec worth the amount u spend, well the 1.5 will be cheaper to build than the vtec but however heres your options.....

Get a D16Z6 (called mini-me) head, its again a direct bolt on, gives you about 21hp. It has vtec too. Remember to remove the oil jet on the block if you plan on doing this. The D16z6 has tons of parts too in the US. you get many cams, just that its more expensive. This should cost you around 450$ for the head and about 250$ other spares. Let me know if you are interested in doing it up i have a huge list of stuff you can do.....

conclusion...
1.5 : Cheaper and Easier.
1.5 Vtec: A little more expensive, but for street driving(city) this is a better option.

Cheers
Dom

Hell yeah! Vtec is a really good car to mod.
The engine is too senstive but if u get it dun from the right person,u have a rocket.hehe.
K&n filter,free flow exhaust,plugs n wires,cams,throttle,head porting and polishing,turbocharger and nos.
Imply all this and get a 13.5sec car.

As everyone has pointed out already,1.5 is easier.Yes it is,but if ur duin up the Vtec engine make sure a pro touches it.Else is all gone!!!!
