best option would be to go for the isuzu diesel which is a retrofit. since you're in bangy contact psycho. he had a contessa and would be the best advisor for anything there.

Diesel mania vs petrol pleasure-Yohan6777

Guys,Im Yohan, ive owned a petrol conte since more than 1.5 years now,and prior to that a Merc benz 240 D123 series, and i even recently bought a diesel contessa..Ive been to chor baazar many times,,and guys who are serious about engine swap, can try o purchase the 4 variants available. The gear box mounting is common for petrol and diesel,in petrol swap howeve suspension coils and etc will have to be strengthened.I was also informed by a spare parts dealer that Armada grand,Bolero have a contessa isuzu gearbox, only scorpio is different.

1)isuzu diesel og-2.0 65 bhp
2)isuzu diesel og 2.2 70 bhp turbo and non turbo option
3)isuzu diesel og 2.4 86 bhp turbo and non turbo option
4)isuzu diesel indian 2.0 55 bhp non turbo (turbo can be added aftermarket isuzu)
i could be wrong about the bhp rating, but they are approximate ratings.
engines are availble at Mr.Pardawala isuzu diesel engine shop(chor baazar). He is quite famous for stocking all isuzu and contessa engine parts for diesel and petrol.

There's a Ford V8 for sale in the classifieds. Can't think of a better car than a conti for a beaut of a V8!

For V8, he will need the complete engine+running gear kit which will include Engine, GB,diff, etc.
Not to forget suspension, braking, etc to have no weak links in the chain.
@DocG: No doubt it will. But, Engine's just the tip of the iceberg wrt to the work on the car.

That's no HM it's a Vauxhaul and I'm sure that thing can stomach a Ford V8 easy!

It can accommodate a V8, but, only after a lot of changes. The chassis, suspension, brakes, wheels and tyres, all will need upgrades. The body will have to be reinforced to take the vibrations. All this will cost a bomb. Besides, sourcing a V8 diesel is really difficult in India.
I'd say, go for a Tavera engine.
