Hi TBhpians,

I had this thought for a long time but never penned down, havent seen any discussions on this here as well.
Hence a New Thread.

I drive a SwiftD and my Wife has issues with the seatbelt always going right across her throat.
Tried adjust the seat location and height with cushions but in vain. She constantly keeps pulling it off her neck.
I don't want the darn thing practically on her windpipe, she wears it anyway but I doubt if it will cause a serious neck injury if I ever get into an accident. :Frustrati

I have heard about seatbelt strap adjusters from amazon, but do not know if they are of any use or if theres a desi way to treat this.

Any suggestions! please:

I dont work or represent indiaplaza in any capacity, except that I have bought some stuff from them. Only one bad experiance out of 25 odd purchases. But thats another story.

I have also seen this stuff at car accessory shops and Big Bazaar (I bought it here).

Doubtful if the product shown in the link above, will help.

You need something that will adjust the height of the s/b mount - and this is not seen in our regular models (of any make) - except may be the higher end models.

OT: appreciate your wife wearing the belt inspite of that.

Well pads do soften the cutting effect - my girlfriend appreciates it since there is no seatbelt height adjuster which is stupid cost cutting.

Is the seat-belt, by any chance, a faulty piece?

By faulty, I mean there are many seatbelts whose metal clip is fitted in the wrong direction. The clip faces the b-pillar instead of facing the seat.
I hope you get my point.

If that is the case in your car, get it corrected.

@ Salil - my GTX has the passenger side seat belt facing the B-pillar. i guess you can open up the roller/retractor? and fit it properly. it will only happen if the seat belt thingy is opened for some reason and fitted wrongly.

I am sure these pads will soften the effect, but they would still be at the throat and might be even more uncomfortable.

The seat belt hook is not faulty, its just that there is no height adjustment to prevent it from slanting across the throat.


I tried tying the seatbelt till the required height and trying on myself, but never worked.

The belt passes through a loop, one end of which is attached to the B-pillar. You could try having a similar piece fabricated, with a longer arm (from the attach point). But the finish would not be very good. Also, the part where the belt would pass through it would then be a multi-part piece. (Have a look at the piece that gets attached to the B-pillar.

I had similar problem with my Indica. As my wife bit short on height, belt actually crossed her neck.

But now this problem is solved with SX4. It has a belt height adjuster to lower the starting point of the belt on the B pillar

The seatbelt ideally should have had height adjusters, which is not there even in some of the newest cars in this segment which are sold like hotcakes in India...!! :D

I know it is there in the Palio. :) It's a very useful feature for adjusting the overall seatbelt height for short passengers.

Not necessary, many of my friends' and relatives' brand new cars of various brands have such faulty belts.

There is no such problem in my car though.:)

I happened to drive a new Indica Turbo last month. Among many things I didn't like, the seat belt was in top 5. It's a pain to get buckled up properly and fast, compared to many other cars. Is it like that in all Indicas or was it only that car?

Refinement.... I think TATAs still don't know what it is. (Engine, transmission, overall drive feeling)

Belting up wise no issue in tata's. But engine wise can sympathize. Dads got a Indigo petrol which he loves, just can't understand why!. Back to topic- Seat belts can be a real hassle to people of shorter height unless it has a height adjuster as it tends to lie across their throat. Could be real trouble in case of emergency braking.

Another point is that there are many people who drive with their backrests almost vertically and the seat very close to the steering wheel. This is the problem with mostly short drivers which further compounds the problem.


please: keep the unnecessary Tata bashing away from this topic. Everybody knows what you said. For some, FE and practicality is more important than outright performance. The sales figures bear testimony to that fact.

If there are people on this planet who like overpriced, cramped and dated 57 bhp hatches, I don't find any reason why there shouldn't be people who like unrefined but affordable, practical and spacious sedans. To each his own.
