Since majority of us do not know the law, specifically the traffic laws, the men in uniform take us for a ride and 99% of the time to avoid hassle we pay up and move on. Only if your friend had stood his ground and asked for a notification to that effect from the cop, h would have seen the reaction.
The fact that we don't stand up and question the cop and rather bribe or pay the fine, doesn't mean that what all the cops say is law or laid down by law.
An apt example is the amount of tint in the sunfilm. The cops have come out with various methods and even the court has chipped in, but....
Today, I consulted a lawyer friend of mine who specialises in road accident & traffic violations cases; he said that there is no specific law banning the xenons/HIDs. It is the same, like the Gujarat police penalises cars that don't have a yellow dot sticker in the middle of their right side HL. Now there is no law on this and can be actually contested in a court of law. But does somebody do this? No, and hence it is assumed as law.. Quote:
