Modifications in OMNI

Hi,

I own a 1997 OMNI (8 seater) run around 70000 km. At present I am the only user of the vehicle - that too occasionally.

I wish to modify it on the following parameters (given in the bracket are the explanations / reason behind modifications required):

1) the fascia change (it has round head-lights as against the current rectangular shpaed available in the showroom piece). Is it possible? Apprx. costing?

2) the lights are regular (they are dim as against the current powerful halogen available in showroom piece) Can I make them Halogen/Neon? What modifications are required in the circuitry? Apprx. costings?

3) Anyways I wish to change the wires also. Any idea about the cost?

4) the seating arrangement (the one it has is boring now. wish to change). Can a sofa-cum-bed would do?

5) partition between cabin & the rear area. any idea?

1. Little bit difficult and costly. You may need to change the front.

2. You can easily upgrade to Halogens.

3. 1000-2000.

4. Find a good upholsterer.

5. Possible, but it's a lot of work.

And, why two threads ? : http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/modifi...modi-omni.html

Thanks Mithun.

Regarding two posts, one is shifted by moderators as I had wrote it elsewhere. Regrets.

How can I shift to Halogens? Somebody told me that some "cut-out" sort electrical device will be required. Any Idea, pls help.

To put higher wattage halogen bulbs in your Omni's headlamp use a relay (or cutout as some say). Buy a TVS/Roots/PMP headlamp relay with wiring kit. That will help you install the high wattage lamps without cutting/splicing your stock wiring.

I bought a TVS headlamp relay with wiring kit and it cost me 430bucks.

Thanks Sankar!!

Thanks Sankar,

I think the local garagewala was taking me for ride - his estimation was around Rs. 800/-. Thanks for the timely support.

I would recommend you to drop the idea of partition since shoddy work may cause damage to the B-pillar.

I think the headlamp assembly change may be difficult. The following images show the growing up of the Omni

While the difference between the later 2 is not much, the facelift of the Omni (1998) did involve changes to the front.

A partition (plastic sheet, not metal) is a good idea if you want to fit an A/C. But please remember that the A/C will sap the engine and impact FE.

I think you can safely go in for OEM rating halogen bulbs.

If you need to convert to rectangular headlamps and have the look of the new Omni you will have to get the front sheet metal piece of your Omni replaced with a newer type piece.

It's a cut & weld operation.

Just a thought, change the rear bench to that of an AMBY, in other words, put a couch in there!.This would make sense with partitioning and sectioning the car.

PS : dunno if the AMBY sofa has legs
