Hi! I need some advice on the lighting, as in headlights, fog lamps etc. for a Skoda Octavia Rider Classic. The current set up, that i have is as follows:
- Rider Classic stock headlamp assembly (single headlight H4 for low/hi beam and a projector foglamp)
- Philips HID for headlamps (4500k, not too sure) and the stock bulbs for the foglamps
Initially I fell for the HIDs due to explanations such as lower heat (else there was a complaint of the lenses getting duller) and looks of the HID.
I have to admit that it is quite difficult to drive at nights. Since the HIDs are not projected, I believe they must be causing inconvenience to the other road users too. Hence have the beams adjusted a little down. Still, I have difficulty for my road view too. Roads without markings are not visible, especially during rain.
I was thinking on adding two hella foglamps fitted at bumper level in front of the bumper or something like that. Would they affect the aerodynamics of the car? condensor cooling capabilities? looks of the car?
Can you please advice me on any other solutions too? Last option could be to remove the HIDs but I would want atleast 130watts thrown on the road and no harm to my headlamp lenses. Approx driving speeds would be 120kmph(avg), 190kmph(max)
The lower right vent on the front bumper is the air cooling vent for the intercooler so there is no way you can block that or youll hamper the performance.
For max brightness especially for visibility during rain and fog conditions, switch back to yellow light, Philips Rally 130/100w with a relay kit.
why not get the projectors off the rs? and also get hids for your fogs.
thanks for the info. i think the RS idea will be a lil too expensive. I'l have to get the two assemblies, one new pair of HID's may be two.
I kinda agree with the 130W idea, but do u think it will darken the glasses. I have seen octy's with duller and dirty looking headlight glasses which they say are due to more heat of the bulb coz its kinda a plastic or fibre glass.
What do u think of fitting two or four rally type fog lamps, the huge ones and put 130w into them? do you think they will affect the looks of the car negatively?
2 assembles wont cost you much
only 35k each
Bulbs extra. :D
I use Osram Nightbreaker in my Octy and they have stock power rating so no relays required and i am very happy with them.
Please note, i have been through the agony of blackened reflectors resulting in replacement of Assemblies due to HIDs.So you can trust me on this that these bulbs will get the job done for you.
you mean to say that the HID's blackened the reflectors?? i thought HID's would not do that coz they don't produce much heat. i mean thats the idea of using the HID na. the normal halogen lamps should only cause the darkening of the reflectors. Kindly advice.
^ Me too. First time I'm hearing that!
4 rally type lamps will look a bit odd on the Octavia. Try and get some lights which will fit in the lower centre grill of the bumper (below the number plate); those shouldnt look too bad.
i'd agree to that. but is it ok to affect the airflow to the condensor? i mean, if we have smaller lights, will it be bright enough, if at all we get any lights that would fill in the gap
You get really awesome Hella and PIAA lights. Bit expensive, but they're meant to be one of the best. May not fill the gap to the T but its only lighting you're looking for right?
well, i wouldn't be really bothered about the looks as far as it doesn't become too repulsive. any suggestions on the set up, two lights or 4lights? yellow or white?
2 and white. 4 would become a little too excessive, and well white; since yellow is ideally meant for fog.
thanks for the advice. H3 or H4? H4 means, both filaments together? relays? recommended bulb?
that was a useful link, but my query is what kind of fog lamp should i look for. I think usually foglamps come with only single filament bulbs, na. in that case, what to do if we need a higher wattage in the additional lamps.
