Baja Atv

Hey guys just want to share something which many don't know about.

The below pics which you are going to see is an ATV which my college team made for an event/race known as BAJA. This is the second time our college is participating in the event.Last year only our college managed to get into this event from all over AP, but this time more two colleges managed to get into this event from AP.
The Baja event is an international event which is held in US every year.
Since last year BAJA has organized its sub event in BAJA-SAE INDIA in Pithampur MP.SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers.
Many engineering colleges from all over India participate in this event and build their own ATV according to the Rule book provided by the Baja itself.
The engine for this event is provided by them and this year they have provided with 340cc and 11 hp engine.
Now coming for the selection of the teams, the teams who are willing to participate shall be facing interviews then they will be selected.
I dont know whether there is any specific number of members to be present in team. Last year our college team has 23 members and this year only 16 members.
This year 58 teams are selected for the event.
The vehicle is made by the student itself and they have to see that the vehicle is made strong so that it can survive the track.as the track will be bouncy, hilly and all kinds of hurdles to check the strength, speed, braking power etc of the vehicle

My college team has completed its vehicle and ready for the event.
here you go with some pics of TEAM MJCET's vehicle of this year.

Does it run on petrol or diesel (looks like a diesel).

Just a question-since the engine is in the back will it maintain its center of gravity when climbing steeps

well it will maintain its center of gravity, its center on gravity is at the center of the vehicle, even we have tested it on a small hilly area.

BAHA 1000 is a 1000kms race in the desert, do you think this ATV can survive that? I would'nt know about the Indian version of BAJA.
BUt an excellent effort. If you guys think of production, such vehicles would be a boon for personal recreations in hill stations and farms etc where you have different terrains like trails, mud, sand etc.
I would really like to try this one out in Jaiselmer, Rajasthan in the Thar desert, it would be fun.

Good effort. BAJA looks really nice. Hope you guys win.

Few questions:
Whats the length of the test track?
Whats the top speed of this vehicle?
How many gears?
Is it RWD with the engine directly driving the rear wheels along or is it a 4WD?
Any issues faced while designing/fabricating BAJA? If yes, how did you work around these issues?
Whats the total cost?

Syed, BAJA looks exciting?
Why is the roll cage designed high?
Also do post some details of making this? That would be more educating and learning!

lenght 3.5km and width 4.5 meter

We have not tested its top speed as we cant run it on the roads but in the college campus we drived it at 50kmph.

Its an RWD.

The cost we came around was 1.5 lakhs.

we faced many issues during the fabrication like we could'nt find the material specified and tyres were also a problem as he have placed disc brakes and also drum brakes.disc for all the 4 tyres and drum for rear.

@ mnhegde: the height is 1.5m and lenght is 1.8m. the engine brand they provided was LOMBARDINI.

Could you please tell me what the eye-to-eye length for the rear coilovers is? And also how much travel do they provide? And how stiff is the spring? Also where can I find these and for how much?

Nice build. Good luck for the competition.

Last years race got exciting in the end. But was still only 2 teams fighting.
Hopefully this year more colleges will go for the win.
Remember last year many struggled on the up hill section.
