how much did the autogauge tacho cost?

Amit,
The tacho looks good. Colors are fancy, do you plan other gauges too ? Voltmeter and stuff ?

in the snap the colors look vibrant,but in real they are not that bright. ya they are fancy, but look nice and sporty. no plans of other gauges. Mine is an ALTO :D

checked the FE of my alto today after fitting the tacho. it was a whooping 16.7 against my earlier figures of max 15.8. This was all under city driving conditions.

after fitting the tacho i have developed a habit of shifting at max 2000 rpm without any power loss. with 5th gear my alto easily cruises at speeds of 60-65. for 80 KMPH the tacho reads 3000 rpm.

i have started interacting with my engine more and my car is happy with it and returning some compromising FE figures. cheers:

...And I have just been ranting on other threads about how useless tachos are!

Well, I guess I have to climb down a rung and admit they can be a useful learning tool

<Blush>

Hi Amit,yes i have the same tacho as you,but my color display button does not work.I am stuck with the red display at night anyways good for you.The colors are pretty good.Enjoy :-)

i guess u can open the tacho and check whether other LEDs are present and if not u can change the color.
personally i dint like the red color. the dial as well as the needle looks red. it looks " BLOODY" ha halol:

Congrat Amit, you finally got it done. It looks neat.

@Thad - Better late than never. :-)

are bhai ab to batado diesel gaddi swift diesel mein tacho kaisa lagai??

atleast now some one help me to find and fit a tacho in my diesel swift ldi, i know autoguage makes diesel tachos and i need one on my swift diesel any one has any leads to fixing tachos on a diesel car????

been asking the same question for almost rather more than a year now, gurus where are you guys ???

@ Rider60,

can you do one thing. go to the MASS and ask them to hook a tacho which they have.its a analog one. it looks like multimeter(analog) which they use it for old non mpfi cars. check with them where from they tap the tacho reading. verify with them is that the correct reading. then i can help you with the wiring.

From what little I know and what I could find on the net there are three ways to connect a tachometer on a diesel.

1. Connect tacho to the RPM signal wire going to the ECU. This should work on the LDi and also will be the simplest to do.
2. Connect to the alternator. But this needs a custom made circuit for it to give accurate readings.
3. Use a magnetic proximity type sensor and get reading from the flywheel. But this will entail drilling a hole on the side of the bell housing for fitting the sensor. Also for this you will have to know how many teeth are present on the flywheel and calibrate the tacho according to that.

Seems like a diesel tacho is not as simple as a petrol one.
