Hey Jigar,

From what I know of you will have to send the ECM abroad for readjustment and instruct them to calibrate it as per the mods you have in your car. It costs around 10-12k for the total exercise.

Or you can fit a piggy back controller like a GReddy Emanage which can help to an extent.

Hi Viper could you give us some more details on the piggyback controller?

How does it work, what are the gains, where we can get one, how much it costs etc?

Thanks

The best piggy back controllers for the Honda cars are Hondata they can provide you with kits as well as reprogramming the existing one itself. However kits like the Apexi - VAFC will let you do a lot more much easily. However a note programming an ECU (even a piggy back one) is not as easy as it seems, any wrong data being entered can literally damage your engine. Please locate a person who is capable of programming the ecu for you before you go in for the purchase. My personal reccomendation would be the Apexi - VAFC.

As for the Chip change / remapping would suggest to contact Hondata.

The piggy back ECU monitors the incoming signals from various sources and alter the outgoing signals to your needs. This alteration happens over and above the working of your current ecu (hence the term piggy back).

i need a new ecm also guys. I think the best alternative i have as of now is buying a thai Vtec spec ecm, which is meant for the DOHC. Where else our Vtecs are SOHC. But i still heard that those DOHC Ecms work well with our cars...!

The honda city vtec was launched in thailand also, the ecm on the type-z city is the same as our indian ones, infact i had got a few and sent some to mumbai and sold some here in bangalore. They work perfect, they infact feel faster also. The indian pj1,p2s etc series ecm are not programmable. You can shift only the revlimit. You can use alternatives like the Twincam ecm preferably an obd1. The ecm will run pretty much the same and could add about 10+ horses, and give you a revlimit of 8500. To install this ecm however you will need to either buy an obd2- specb to obd1 conversion harness. Otherwise i can send you a wiring diagram where you can jump the wires and convert it (this is a cheaper option) but you have to be carefull while wiring. I have one vtec running this ecm, i have chipped it and running a JUN program, slightly rich map as we are running pretty high compression and stage 4 cams. The best thing in the twincam ecm is that its chippable, for changing programs all you need is a motorola rom, burn the program using a willem burner.

So go for the ecm, will be quite fun running, dont buy the b18 ecm's, get the b16a obd1, as the b18 base program runs a rich map and you may have driveability issues like flat spots etc....

Cheers
Dom
