Rear captain seats for a UV?

I recently received my Toyota Fortuner with standard middle row seats as we all know. I want to install the captain seats that they(Toyota) have in the Innova top end models, i inquired Toyota about it and they say that its possible but it would cost me anywhere close to 60k-90k! with little bodywork on the inside and the leather might not match.

Any suggestions on cheaper or better options?

I've always insisted that (ironically) the 10 lakh rupee Innova is more comfortable for middle-row passengers than the 20 lakh rupee Fortuner. Partly due to the captain seats, partly due to the Innova's superior ride quality (Fortuner's rather bumpy in the city).

Installing captain seats is a very easy install. However, to get it done at a more reasonable cost, you'll have to look at the after-market. Go visit any reputable seat specialist in Delhi. I'd guesstimate the cost to be under 30K (10K for each seat, rest is the cost of leather). Of course, you should get the best price you can for your existing seat too.

First of all congrats on the Fortuner!!! Its sure is a lovely car and I am virtually drooling over any Fortuner or I should call it the mini Landcruiser that I see on delhi roads.

BTW 60-90k for the middle row captain seats is totally crap!!!

I installed the same seats in my MM550 for a very small fraction of the cost that these guys are asking you. In my opinion if you wanna spend that much amount buy the seats from the second hand market. They shouldn't cost you more than 10-15k and then go for Stanley leather all around.
My best guess is that by doing this you would still save a lot of moolah and still be much better off with no issues of the leather not matching or anything.

BTW would I be wrong in thinking that Stanley Leather seat covers would the one of the best that are available in India???

Will an aftermarket seating modification affect the warranty?

Based on my personal experience in both vehicles, yes, compared to the Innova, the ride in the Fortuner is a bit bumpy, on uneven city roads at lower speeds, particularly. Apart from the suspension. I suppose the higher seating position (compared to the Innova) contributes to this, I guess.

Congrats on the purchase, the Fortuner truly has amazing presence !

That is a wise idea, but such a modification makes the warranty void. So think before you act.

I beg to differ. Simply swapping the seats should / wont void your vehicle warranty. After all, you are not making any mechanical / electrical changes. I can understand how a diesel power box can cancel the warranty coverage, but changing the seats. Not at all.

Isn't swapping of seats a mechanical change. Also warranty refers to whole of the vehicle and not the parts under the hood alone.

Hi Ansol,

Did you modified your seat in your fortuner? If so, can you please post some interior pictures.

Thanks,
Camon

Recliner Bucket Seats (Rear) For Renault Duster?

I was wondering where i can get custom bucket seats that can recline made for the rear of a Renault Duster. The rear seats are not really comfortable, hence wanting to get custom recliners made. Will be getting rid of the parcel tray to make more leg room if necessary. Can Anyone please help me out in this regard? Thank you.

Note: I'm asking this on behalf of a friend.

Re: Recliner Bucket Seats (Rear) For Renault Duster?

If at all such seats are available, the Duster can take only 2 (captain) seats in the rear. The rear wheel-well intrudes so much into the cabin that reclining/sliding the bench seat is virtually impossible.

Which is the priority? Recliner or Bucket seat?

If it is only the recliner, easy job (comparatively) and a competent upholstery guy should be able to make (Koyas - Coimbatore did few such mods, even with 60:40 split) If you are looking for individual bucket seats (making it a 4 seater) you may consider the seats from any of the MPVs with modifications on the fixing area.

In both cases please keep in mind the seat belt anchor position is designed with some considerations of current seating posture and any change will reduce the efficiency of seat belts.

It's easy in a body-on-frame UV due to the height available, but difficult (not impossible) in a crossover like the Duster. Would suggest padding up the existing seat & making its backrest recline-adjustable from a competent seat shop instead. That, and the awesome ride quality, should keep your passengers happy.

My relative got Innova captain seats installed in his Fortuner in Delhi. I don't have the name of the place as he sent his former driver to get them installed but he said it costed him +/- 30k as well as not sure if the seats are genuine Toyota seats or knock offs and I can't verify it as I live far away. Also, after using these seats for more than 6 months, he says that they do enhance comfort but even these lack adequate cushioning.

For me, biggest benefit is the ability to push the seats back which will liberate leg room and allow the person to stretch their legs as I find this generation Fortuner's underthigh support quite lacking.

Attaching some pictures for reference.
