I'm thinking of one of those "el-cheapo" china made pen stands/ desk clocks. They can display time, temperature, RH and some other data, you should find one at any stationary shop for 2-300 bucks. Just find one that is about the same size as the cutout in the cars console and make DIY installation.

These things run on their own batteries (which last a couple of years easily), so no interfacing/connections required.

This would give you internal temperature and RH readings, as well as the time.

For the outdoor temperature, either go with a slightly more expensive version of the same which comes with a temperature sensing probe, connected to the LCD display - you would need to mount the probe wherever you want the temperature reading from - I guess the boot would give you a fair indication of the outdoor temperatures. This is slightly complex to do yourself.

My two cents - if you can live without the external readings, just visit your local stationary/gift store and buy whatever fits in the space available.

Yeah, something of that sort. That one seems cheaper, though.

I had bought the below referenced one from dealextreme.com and using it in my i10. This is pretty useful and I had even verified the same with my other thermometer.
DealExtreme: $13.27 3.8" LCD Digital Clock with In/Outside Thermometer + Voltage Measuring Bar for Vehicles

Hey nice idea. But a question: How much reliable the reading of temperature will be? I mean I don't need some decimal level but will it be accurate enough with variation of 2-3 degree?

rajswiftvdi, he seems to purchased from dealextreem site itself.

seller of these items are mostly china based.

pradipk: you get a long cable with a connector at one end and temp. sensor at other end, you can run the cable from
under the dash and stick it near where the wipers are.

A few days ago it showed 49 C as the outside temperature on the MFD of my Skoda Superb. However, next day's newspapers said that the maximum temperature on that day was only 46.5 C. It made me wonder too how accurate is this car gadget?
