is it possible to make the windows on our indian cars(hatches,sedans) frameless?will doing so affect the stability of the glass, i mean could the glass possibly crack/break due to the impact while closing the doors??

As per you photo, they are for convertible/cabriolet cars, they offer no benifit for a regular car, you get a lot of wind noise. Trust me i used to own a cabriolet.

Yes it is possible, depends how well the modification is executed. Hard to do it on cars with flat glass. I have a coupe and the door is same as in above picture, there is not a single percent wind noise from mine.

It should be possible but not as easy as it seems. You will need to add something onto the main frame of the car and that should be a perfect fit otherwise it will leak. Plus It will look odd and make getting in and out of the car more difficult. Its not worth all the pain.

my bad, i just posted a random picture from google not noticing that it's a cabriolet.fine, here's a picture of a stock coupe rolling off the factory with frameless doors.how do i make my car, say a Swift,get the frameless look(which looks very classy/sporty to me)?do i need to go for a stronger glass?what else should i be doing?someone out there(in an indian-make car) must be rolling with those frameless windows, right?

P.S:i'm a noob when it comes to the technical side so please try to be as illustrative as possible and bear with my stupid questions stupid:

It doesn't make any difference if it's a coupe or convertible, the doors are the same.

The real issue is the rather severe reduction in rigidity provided by the door frame to the front crash structure. You don't want to be going under a lorry without those steel frames holding up the A pillar structure.

Infact the door frame act as a support to A - B pillars. Any mods with these can have adverse effects from a safety point of view in case of disasters.

Alternatively, you could buy yourself a Chevy / Subaru Forester for 2.5 lakhs :D. Its the only Indian car I can think of with frameless windows.

@ImmortalZ: Manufacturers who had such a arrangement always argued that the extra metal went directly to the frame which makes the car structure stronger (making car more rigid fixed to the body than the door)

But here if the thread started wanted to remove it from a existing car, he will be making it weak.

Exactly what I mean. Cars which come with frameless windows have extra reinforcements around the A pillar area. Converting a car without this reinforcement is going to compromise crash safety.

GTO meant a pre-worshipped one! ;) Also, it's quite some time since the Forester was phased out.

There was one in our classifieds for sale some time back. I think buying it would make more sense for the frameless windows then recreating one in your swift, money wise I meant.

But what about spares! I am sure they are very difficult to get!

What about cars with frame less windows! How this safety is achieved in them?
