santro: when do you get the cross member changed ?

hi guys,
I'm getting a comprehensive servicing and the service center guys told me that the cross member is rusting (gal raha hai).
For a santro, they are quoting me 12k for the cross-member.

My question is - when do you need to get your cross member changed ? Because, I am not getting any audible rattling sound as of now - should I just go ahead and change it to be safe. Is there any risk of damage to engine if I dont get it changed (he did mention it was somewhere under the engine)

thanks!

The cross member of old Santros are prone to rusting and more seriously perforation. If your tech is saying that it needs to be changed, take his word for it and get it done asap.

I recently changed the cross member on my 2001 Zen .It was rusting but a jump over an unmarked speedbreaker cracked it .As a result the front tires were touching the body on braking.

@Sandys can you post a pic of the above mentioned part? Usually, cross members, chassis parts are designed for life or 300000 kms/10 years at least.
