Re: When Remote Locking Fails

More often than not the immobilizer does not use the power on the key. This is an rfid chip when picks up power from and responds to the interrogation by the central locking unit.

Re: When Remote Locking Fails

Thanks for the information regarding immobiliser.

As already been pointed out, one sure way of assessing the remaining battery power is by gauging the distance from which the remote operates. It surely comes down progressively. If it becomes less than 10 feet, perhaps it is prudent to change the battery.

Currently I can open the doors of the car that is parked in the ground floor from the fourth floor apartment which has no line of sight.

Emergency Override for GMKE-5170 (Fitted with my Beat LT by dealer)

In case of loss / damaged remote control, to disarm the system:
  • Open a door and bonnet.
  • Turn ignition ON-OFF, count flashes on turn indicator equal to the first digit of the PIN code.
  • Cycle the ignition ON-OFF, count flashes on turn indicator equal to the second digit of the PIN code.
  • Then turn the ignition ON to disarm the alarm system
The default factory set PIN code is '11'

Cheers!

Re: When Remote Locking Fails

In Fiesta, using the key one can start the engine, with remote working or not (as the other Key doesn't have any remote controls). Is it not with other cars?

+1 to that. The code to disarm the immobilizer in Fiesta is embedded in the key itself. The remote is used to lock/unlock central locking only.

It is a good idea to change the default PIN code.

The car thieves are also aware of this override mechanism.

Re: When Remote Locking Fails

I recently changed the car battery of my Chevrolet Beat LT TCDi. Got the Exide replaced with Amaron from a local battery guy. Immediately after the change onwards my car remote locking is not functioning. Is there some central locking wire that you think might be disconnected? Do i need to reprogram the key? Look forward to inputs.

I have been manually locking/ unlocking since the last one month. I am sure it's got to do something with the battery change because it stopped working immediately after the change. The battery guy told he can't help with it.

Remote locking woes in Wagon R VXi F10D

My cousin is the owner of a 2007 Wagon r vxi. It has a factory installed remote locking/ car security system. The car remains parked outside under the sky 365 days a year braving the elements. However it has run only sone 8000 odd kms. Recently however the car alarm goes off automatically at night and doesn't stop permanently even when deactivated from the remote. Only way out of this has been to keep the car on manual central locking. Took it to the dealer but they say everything is fine, and I haven't been able to replicate the problem there. It happens at night and that too not regularly. Can anyone tell me why.

Two possibilities I can think of:

1. The Maruti remote locking/alarm is very very sensitive, it goes off at every instance possible ranging from a nearby Royal Enfield misfire to a cat landing on the hood. I 'think' there is sensitivity setting on the sensor which can be set back so it doesn't go off every so often.

2. Rats of similar could have caused a short circuit or an exposed wire, which sets off the alarm at specific instance and not all the time.

However, the only counter argument for #2 is that you would see other signs of rat infestation as well and not just the alarm. E.g. The rats used the battery top as a dining table in my car often left the leftovers (read bones and bread crumbs) behind.
