Yes the 4000's appear to use hex nuts as well. You need an Allen key to take the bezel off.

Not sure if they are officially available in the UK though, the Hella UK web site is offline for some reason.

Are the spotlights with blue tint glass legal in India ? A set of four on ebay currently which look in good condition.

AFAIK,lights are legal so long as the height of the light stay below your headlights and also obviously not of such color or intensity which will catch the eyes of the law-enforcers.

I am getting 12V 30A relay from Hella (Rs 570) - decently seal packed. Can't find roots. else there's Interface brand as well.

The labor charges for swift (fitting /routing beneath bumper) for Rs 100. Should I add another dedicated fuse?

Are you getting only the relay or the entire wiring harness ? If its the wiring harness, it should already have a fuse as shown in the diagram below. If it doesn't, than it better to install a fuse.

If its only the relay, than also get a fuse installed.

Hi All;

I wish to upgrade the stock headlamp of my Spark to some better one. Reliability is an issue out here. Secondly wish to add fog lamps in position provided for in front bumper.
Any suggestions with expected financial impact and modifications required (relays etc.)

Hi BHPians... Need Advice and some first hand info from your experience.

I want to go for HID for my Safari. I search through this thread and found few answers my self. Many ppl here suggest Philips Extreem Power 100/90 instead of Osram. My need is for primarily city use with occassional long trips / off roading. So I am not too keen on the white blue light which does not fare well during rain. Some questions for which I did not get answers are...

1. In order to install the HID kit (specifically for Philips Extreen Power) do I need to change the reflectors as well? I believe the headlamp reflector console is a single unit. And I dont want to change it.
2. Even if its not required to be changed, do they need to cut some piece off to install the new bulb or its just a simple bulb replacement? I am not too keen on this cut something off. I already have a faulty right headlight console which accumulated water droplets.
3. Which is the best HID Kit for Safari. I have read ppl suggesting Hella. If so how much would it cost in Bangalore. Is there a duplicate problem for the kits as well? ( I know lot of dupli bulbs r in market).
4. What is the Kelvin power for the said bulb? (5000K ?)
5. Someone also suggested a simple bulb upgrade to Philips Extreem Power 55/60 (Just like the OEM)

Safari owners pls help me find the best option.... Thanks...

NiTviN philips xtreme power is a halogen bulb not HID and pardon my ignorance but i dont know about xtreme power coming in 100 watt also.
if you want HIDs, it is a direct plug and play fitment and wont require any cutting of the reflector or anything. both of them will be safe for the stock headlamp. no worries with regard to that. HID start from 6k and can go upto 10k depending on the bulb size and Kelvin rating.

HIDs (Xenons) are best used with the projectors. This means that one has to change the headlamp unit. HIDs without projectors cause glare and scattering of light, they are therefore illegal. The HID is not just replacement of bulbs, it is a complete kit with ballast etc. and needs to be wired, routed and fitted properly. The whole kit is quite expensive.

K or Kelvin refers to the 'temperature' of the light not intensity. The temp. of the light is the colour of the light. IIRC, the lowest is about 3200K or 3400K and the colour is close to that of the halogens. Most stock HIDs are in the 4000 to 4200K (approx. range) and the light is slightly bluish, this colour works fine even in the rains. Most after-market guys stock 6000K and above due to demand by the bling seekers, the light is blue and totally useless for driving, it serves only to attract attention of other road users, who will then curse you for blinding them.

To illustrate the colour of light: The old mercury vapour lamps gave a blue to violet light, the newer sodium vapor lamps give a yellow to red light. Most people feel that they see better in the sodium vapour lamps. The sodium vapor lamps would be in the under 4000K category, the mercury vapour lamps would be in the above 6000K category.

The Extreme-power from Philips are halogens and give the white (yellow not blue) light. They come in H1, H4, H7, etc. and replace the existing bulbs.

i did a lot of research on xtreme power and night breaker before i got the latter. and now i am getting HIDs with projectors on my swift. i have been reading alot about bulbs and HIDs.

the part i missed was that HID is not allowed without projectors. agree:

Rs.570??? I just paid Rs.850 for the exact same thing! Where are you getting them from?

But this kind of setup comes as standard in Toyota Corolla Altis. That is the Altis come with HID without Projectors.

muneemmk you are right but it is on the low beam not high. and from what i have observed, HID on altis is not that harsh on the oncoming traffic. high is what typically blinds the traffic on the opposite side. and when coming as standard fitment, i am sure the company must have worked on the reflector as well.

Thanks white_vdi and Ravveendrra. You guys have been very helpful. I got the difference between Halogens Vs Xenon and HID. One question though. I just want to upgrade my stock bulbs to a better (brighter) ones. When I enquired at an auto shop, the guy told me that we can upgrade to 100/90 Watts and since we need more electrical power we need to use some relay or some sort of component (sorry dont know too much technical stuff on lighting!!!). This made sense to me since we are talking about upgrading a 60/50 bulb to a 100/90 bulb. Is this true? Whats the component he is talking abt?

What do you guys suggest me to do? Should I go for 100/90 upgrade with that relay stuff? Of just use Philips Extreem Power 60/50 bulb upgrade? I dont want to go for the HID ones right now.
