Proxima, you have 4 bulbs in the old safari i.e. 2 pairs.
One Pair is for low beam
Other pair is for high beam.
When you are in low beam mode 2 bulbs light up
In high beam mode all 4 light up.

That said old safari had pretty good lights, I suspect the reflector. Get the reflector and headlight glass cleaned and the headlights aimed.
Also from your service book post what are the bulbs in a safari
For example on pair may be H3 the other pair may be H7.

Thanks TSK. I will check allignment and the reflector, if I am still not satisfied, will get back to you on what bulb to replace the OE with.

I got my stocks changed to Osram 100/80W yesterday, with relay!

Awesome results!

Where did you get them from panky. Cost/model etc.,?

hi tanveer, i dont remember the exact model # it was OSRAM 100/80W for sure & it costed me 300 rs a pair for bulbs and app 600 for the relay.

i bought it from authorised dealer in west delhi, pawan motors. the guy's name is atul and his # is 9891200240.

try getting a philips 130 /110 with a cutout . You could probably buy ceramic bulb holders from roots and a cutout . Everything should cost around 700 rs for the upgrade . You will feel that the money is worth spent .

Cutout is used as these bulbs draw a heavy ampereage and for switching ,the stock contacts can switch so much of amps and the oe wiring cannot handle the amperes . Thats the reason for a cutout .

Incase someone has replied before ,kindly ignore as i didnt have the patience to go through the whole set of replies .

Gosh!!! Such lovely headlamps. 200 pounds one set.. and postage wud be another 200 pounds (cos ireland itself 50 pounds) and customs another 200 pounds.. equal to 600 pounds. o m g! but its so lovely!! so sad that stock is empty.

OT: Those fiesta zetec engines rock, and also the ovrm's present in this ford fiesta zetec have the mirrors of the indian escort which is much better than the present ikon's ovrm's.

my 130/110 bulbs have again failed . the high beams have gone and I got to replace the bulbs again . I am toying with the idea of getting some industrial grade relays , and also planning to limit the current by adding a diode inbetween the bulbs . I know for sure there would be a voltage drop when the diode is connected in series , but , I would like to know if there are any other protection methods to save those filaments from burning out .

I have also had issues with the "electronic" relays ,and thats the reason why i am planning to get an industrial or militiary grade , high ampere relay for each bulb .

Anyone out there has tried with these mods ?

Have u tried ceramic holders? If not, then thats the most likely culprit. Good relay with good quality wiring and ceramic holders will mean your 130/110 bulbs will always shine.

I think your bulbs are failing because of heat. In city traffic using such high power bulbs will heat them up to a point it will fail sooner. along with this if you are using dipper then it is sure reason for failure. hope you are using ceramic bulb holders. other ones will melt off and when you want to change the bulbs you will see everything is a molten mass and might turn into a major problem. you can end up damaging the headlight assy itself.
industrial grade relays dont make a difference here. if you are using bosch relays(30amps) it is good enough. Diode doesnt limit current. you reduce current then you are reducing power output, then why put this bulb. go for xenons or lower power to 90/100

With ceramic holders 130/110W relay and thick wiring nothing will fail.
Also make sure you don't do high low beam together.

Can anybody help me out with details on underbody neons.. Aprox cost and size of the tubes...

I want to go in for light upgrade on my Optra and Swift.

The Optra has 4 bulbs for the headlamps and 2 for the fogs.

The Swift has 2 bulbs for the headlamps and 2 for the fogs.

Not taking into account the parking lamps.

My driving is 50% highway 50% City.

I want really good lamps. Looking to go in for 100/90 with Bosch relay. Now i have a few questions, lightning experts like tsk and tyre dealers with lightning knowledge like irags please put your inputs :-
  1. Osram Silverstar, how good are they, Are they white in colour as i have heard White light disperses easily and gets mixed in the background. Yellow light is better seen in a car on the road.
  2. Which lights to go in for foglights and what wattage.
  3. Swift & Optra lamps/fogs use which bulbs, h1, h7, etc

hi! Guys, Need your help. Booked swift vdi and I would like to know what all option I have when it comes to upgrade headlights?

I understand I can go for higher wattage bulbs. Will they void warranty if fitted? Does anyone know what wattage bulbs are fitted as standard in swift?

Yes yellow right is better for foggy conditions. In normal circumstances, white light(not yellow light made white by blue glass as is the case of bluevision) will do great. Osram does not have very white light. Just slightly whiter. They are a safe option if you don't want to increase wattage

Swift has H4 in headlamps. As for others, see your owners manual, or take out the bulb and read whats written. Wattage is usually 50W but may vary 5W here or there. Putting more powerful lights in fogs wont help much as that light mostly falls right in front of you. It will help to get something more powerful for the main beam,

Swift has 60/55W H4.
As for warranty on using 100/90 you never know. I used 130/110 also in my indica, but no warranty issues. Now its out of warranty anyways. But if your dealer says that your alternator failed due to overload, you cannot argue. Its purely your call. A good option will be to get relay and 100/90 fitted from a MASS. TASS guys do it, don't know about maruti.
