thanks for the reply rehaan! have bought a class 10 32gb transcend card! works lovely and the clarity of the cam is amazing! went to malshej this weekend will upload the video soon! waiting for the LCD BacPac!
Here's another camera option :
The
VIO POV HD
Advantages :
- Has 3 parts : lens ---wire---> LCD+Controls & a wireless remote
- Has a tag feature where you can "mark" points in the footage from the wireless remote
- Has a lighter / more mobile lens/sensor (easier for mounting with less shake/bounce etc)
- $600 though, yikes

GoPro has launched a NEW and IMPROVED HD HERO
2.
Not only is this good news because its a better camera than the ealier ones, but they still continue to sell the older models at
lower prices!
$299.99 HD HERO 2 (improvements listed below)
$239.99 HD HERO
$199.99 HD HERO Naked (less mounts included)
$149.99 HD HERO 960 (no 1080p mode, and 720p does not have 60fps)
Whats new on the HD HERO 2 ? Resolutions : Same. Maxes out at 1080p
Frame Rates : The 800x480 mode can now shoot 120fps! 960p can also do 48fps.
Field of View : 1080p and 720p now get a choice between 170-degree and 127-degree FOV
Lens : Apparently this glass lens (previous was plastic) is 2x as "sharp"
Pictures : 11MP as opposed to the earlier 5MP. 10 photos per second possible. 0.5 sec timelapse added.
Exposure : Tests have shown that the HERO 2 is much faster to correct exposure.
LEDs : It has a flashing red recording indicator on 4 sides now! You'll no longer get your face at the start of every video while checking if its recording or not.
Display : Much easier to understand, with icons and (actual) words, not hieroglyphics! Battery indicator too.
Ports : HDMI replaces the old component out. A line-in for an external mic has been added too.
Case : All mounts, plastic case, and old accessories are compatible with the new HERO 2.
Accessories : An upcoming wifi remote lets you control recording via a wireless remote. If you have a smartphone, it will even let you view the recording live!

Am looking for a reasonably priced cam for fixing it on my car windshield with a recording capability of at least 12 hours (I know it would be battery + storage capacity dependant) while driving. Anything available in India that could be ordered on-line would be preferable.

Here is something that comes at almost half the price of a GoPro.
KODAK PLAYSPORT Video Camera Zx3, HD Waterproof Mini Pocket Camcorder, Waterproof Digital Camera
The Zx3 is listed on
eBay India and
here.
AFAIK its available for around Rs. 7,500/- There are no mounts or suction cups like the GoPro so you would have to get one made locally or buy something like a GPS device holder for it.
I have seen the quality of videos and they are excellent. Records in HD (720p and 1080p) without any lag. GoPro has a wide angle lens to it can cover a lot of area like a panoramic lens.

Has anyone else used any of these cams ? They are reasonably priced. Do they come with any sort of warranty ? |
I think
tejas@perioimpl has something like this. Though his is more from a security / drive-logging point of view. I think its just the same cam being positioned as an "action" cam here? I think its safe to say - expect rolling shutter / jello effect!

Looks like a good cam, i guess the major disadvantage is the less wide angle lens.
You can buy a decent suction cup on ebay for <$10. I've bought a couple.
MadMonkey has one of these Kodaks. (Though he's soon to by the GoPro Hero2)

For cheaper one check out Team Associated XD cams. They are primarily for RC applications, but should work. Also Hobbyking.com has cheap cams for $30. Planning to get one.
Yipeee, I got myself a Gopro HD Hero 2 and 16GB class 10 SDHC card. Currently it is at home town.
We have a Fiat linea, Hyundai Verna(Fluidic) and a Honda City iVtec in the family, so my plan is to film how these cars fair on a patchy high way using Gopro. I have a found a decent road also, its a half a kilometer straight rubberized tarmac, with some good undulation. One can easily do 80Km/hr on that road.
I could mount near the rear wheel to see how good the suspension damping is, in each car.
I will surely upload some car footage, the above comparison is what I have in my mind stupid:. Lets see how things unfold :D.

The track looks a lot better from this angle. Good lap too. Where did you get the camera? and how much? I always wanted to record my laps.

I got it from Dubai for 13,000 Rs. Its a GoPro Hero2 Motorsport edition camera. The only negative is the short battery life, hardly last 2 hours.

Personally, i'd still pick the GoPro Hero 2 since :
1) Its $100 cheaper
2) Video quality is better
3) It supports 170* FOV even at 1080p (if im not mistaken)

I am looking to purchase the GoPro HD Hero 2. If I want to use the camera to mount on my dashboard (facing outward), will the Curved Surface Adhesive Mounts suffice?
