Bajaj Plans for bigger 350/690CC bikes with KTM

Just read on Economic Times today, here is the link
Bajaj Auto plans bigger Pulsar & KTM motorcycle models to take on rivals Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki - The Economic Times

that Bajaj is planning a bigger 350cc and above bikes alongwith KTM to beat the competition in a year's time.
With KTM Duke 200 and Bajaj Pulsar 200NS, the competition is surely hotting up and I believe Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki to respond to this shortly.
It will good to have few more options in 250CC and above bikes!!
What say?

Hallelujah!!!

They imply that Bajaj will build the bigger bike at their Chakan plant (would probably export most of the output).

But economies of scale could ensure that these bikes (whenever they come) would be very reasonably priced

Re: Bajaj Plans for bigger 350/690CC bikes with KTM

I hope I am not being overly optimistic here to state that as a result of onslaught from competitor's,I am hoping that Yamaha comes up with a good 200/250cc engined biked , and as good looking as the R15V2.0.

Alongwith that, with Pulsar being the VFM bikes, I hope there's price correction for 250cc bikes. The Baby Ninja at around 3 Lakhs gets too costly. Something around 2-2.25 for 250cc will be good!!
Finger's crossed. I am in line for 200/250 or even 350cc bike in 6 months to a year's time if the bikes are decently priced

All KTMs to be launched in India will be on the same platform i.e trellis frame with liquid cooled single cylinder; there will not be any imported KTMs for now.

The next KTM is a fully faired bike and in all probability a 250, this will be followed by a enduro/super moto type and then the 350.

Mr.Vicky scored very good marks in basic arithmetic. He is the master of cross multiplication.

Pulsar 200 = 1 lac
Pulsar 350 = (1 * 350/200) lac

Re: Bajaj Plans for bigger 350/690CC bikes with KTM

yea it would be a good idea to wait a few months for the whole line up of KTM to make its way out before booking the duke200. I believe there will products in the 250cc range and the 350cc range. KTM has said that they have already submitted their Moto3 (250cc) variant for homologation and that will soon find its way onto showrooms in India. That would probably be a 4 stroke version of an RS250. There are pictures of it already floating around the net. KTM already has a 350cc product in its like up with the Freerider 350. So the next few months should see a track-ready KTM250 vs the CBR250 & the KTM350 against the Bullet350 :P. They will be followed by lesser Bajaj Clones , im sure. And this is just the slated launches from one manufacturer. Interesting times ahead !

Re: Bajaj Plans for bigger 350/690CC bikes with KTM

I wonder what engine Duke 350 will have, a Freeride 350 (24hp) or a Enduro 350 (45hp) ? All this time I thought both had different engines, but this site claims it to be the same EXC-F engine but detuned to produce 24 hp. Really keeping my fingers crossed for the 350, on how much hp will Duke 350 be planned for, 40 will be nice, 45 will be great.

As mentioned, the engine is based on the same fuel-injected, counterbalanced 350cc mill used in the EXC-F, but it’s drastically detuned to produce 24 horsepower, with an emphasis on torque and mild delivery. For ease of use, it has electric starting just like the donor bikes. Rumors also suggest that this engine will also find its way into a Duke chassis.

How can 350 cc have less than 25 bhp? .The current 200 is putting out 25 bhp , it makes no sense for the maker and buyer to keep and accept the same . I expect >35 bhp for 350 cc .

Its not, How, it's why.

Most european markets are much more mature than the Indian market and are not horsepower starved and top speed crazy!

They have lowered the power and increased the torque to make it more attractive to new comers in off-roading. Check out the free ride 350 videos on you tube to get an idea of the terrain KTM believes the 350 will be used on!

But for sure, 350 cc when introduced in India will be designed to produce more than 24 hp !

I was talking with respect to Indian context . why would I talk about European side ? . Indian ppl are mature enough and will immediately dump it even before its released if they power it anything under 25 bhp.The benchmark in price and power is set and its now for others to aim and better it or keep trying .

No ads ,no gimmicks, no stickers , still the 200 sells in tons !

Interestingly, this is exactly why I believe makes us a less mature market

But, Bajaj knows this already, and will not commit that sacrilege in India.

Same reason they launched the 125cc Duke in europe but 200cc in India.
Nevertheless, Its a matter of speculation as to what power number they will target. It will definitely be a great motorcycle for sure.

BTW, I have owned a 690 SMC, and anyone who thinks singles are not fun, needs to ride a KTM big single

Re: Bajaj Plans for bigger 350/690CC bikes with KTM

The 200 is already at 26 bhp guys.

Which crazy Indian biker would buy a 350 that would not offer at least a few bhp MORE than what the Ninja 250 from the same stable delivers, even if you discount the twin versus single argument?

Remember that KTM Duke 690 thumper produces as much power as the Ninja 650 twin, and is way crazier to ride.

I am definitely waiting to switch my 200 over to the 350. But would be VERY disappointed if its even a single bhp less than 40.

And considering its going to probably be built around essentially the same frame and wil be built here in India, I would again feel VERY disappointed (read cheated) if it retails for anything more than 2-2.25 Lacs OTR.
