I assume you are referring to the KTM (Duke?) 350.

What is on the anvil from Yamaha, Suzuki, and TVS? I have not heard anything. + any details on projected timeframes?

Day dreaming indeed, but there's a lot of talk about a possible CBR400R or a CBR500 to come out reasonably soon. With the new Ninja 300R and 400R in the market, Honda is now under serious pressure to prove something. CBR250R would lose out to Ninja 300R, as people always tend to go for one better than the cheapest/smallest - and when it comes to first bikes in the West, CBR250R is going to be the smallest where as Nijna 300 just that little bit above the Honda.

I would fully expect to see a 399cc bike from Honda reasonably soon - the EU licensing laws are changing and the restricted license power allocation is going up from 33 bhp to 46 bhp, and the CBR250R is only outputting 23 bhp. Also there's the new law that states that you can't restrict a bike double it's original power - that is, you can't restrict a CBR600RR down to the 45 bhp as it originally has over 90bhp etc. So whichever way you look at it, Honda has no choice but to start selling something that does 35-45 bhp sooner than later.

yes the KTM duke 350. this could all be wishful thinking but there's rumors all over the internet about yamaha working on locally manufacturing a 250cc, Suzuki has the inazuma or gv250 for 2013 and there's also one such from Tvs. no credible leads but since we were talking about dreams

Re: Honda CBR 250R - 2013

Positron, great inputs bro, but I assume you are talking international launches? Not sure if these would make it to India in parallel.

Vroomsome, I have been hearing about the "big" 250 Yam since long before the Duke 200 even began being discussed. Down to whether it will be a single or tin cylinder.

I do not have much faith in TVS bringing out anything new or radical. Them seem to have lost their way these past couple of years after the original Apache.

Suzuki is always the quiet sort. They might surprise.

So word on the launch date as yet? Also, does it make sense to wait if I am planning to buy the bike in May end?

Re: Honda CBR 250R - 2013

Please don't laugh I want a bike to satisfy my 4 year son! I drive suzuki access now. I use scooter for its convenience within the city. However he is not happy and he points to everything that doesn't look like a scooter on the road and asks me if we can buy one such! He is not happy with any of these scooter look-a-like two wheelers. Technically or financially speaking, I do not have any issue buying any of the bikes sold in India. I am alternating between Duke200 and CBR 250R. He has fallen in love with FZS and CBR 250R and wants one of each!! I am thinking Duke 200 (+ ABS). Since Duke 390 may come with ABS, i am hoping that Duke 200 may get ABS as well this year. Otherwise looks like I will go with CBR (+ABS). Looking forward to the announcements of 2013 line up. Thanks for listening

My personal opinion, if you were looking for one, would be to go for duke 200(with ABS) or the 390 because their colors would intrigue your son for quite some time. ABS because its's a safety feature that never does any harm.

What is the confusion here? Since you are not financially weak, ask what he likes & goahead to buy the one he likes & act like a driver

Thank you guys for the guidance. As you see Duke 200 line-up is not yet announced for 2013. And I was wondering if CBR line up for 2013 is the final one or if there are any more surprises waiting for us. If I do not hear about Duke 200 with ABS, no more confusion, I will go with CBR. However if Duke 200 comes with ABS and then I have to chose between CBR and Duke (+ABS) , I guess then I will ask my son to choose

Is 2013 line up for CBR is final?

A bike manufacturer rarely upgrades their line twice a year. So no, I don't think so.

The duke might be launched on the 10th and most probably would have ABS.

Is it just me or is there a substantial uptick in pricing from previous levels? At least on the standard version that seems to be the case.

Unless of course I haven't paid attention in a while.

There's definitely been an increase. I last saw the price of a Red STD to be somewhere around 1,76,xxx. And that was about 2 months back.

I actually remember an even lower price.

Honda is really milking the fact that there isn't anything else of it's kind anywhere near that price point. For some reason I just can't justify paying that much for it. No offense to CBR owners of course, just my opinion.
