Hello folks!
After a lot of search and research I have come to conclusion that in my use case I only need a good bluetooth headset with mic that can be fitted in a full-face helmet. The only requirements of this headset are:
- It should have good call quality and mic with noise cancellation feature, no need for super clear HD speakers for listening to music; basic speakers will do the job.
- There should be some dedicated button for answering or rejecting call and volume control.
- It should work with Hey Siri/OK Google Voice Assistant (which usually all earphone do by default).
Actually, whenever I ride with my wife on the pillion, the only itch is that we can't talk properly due to wind noise and helmets. We don't want to talk consistently for long and therefore this can be done using a phone call if and when needed. Secondly, while riding alone sometimes you just wish to make an important short call but do not want to interrupt the ride which can easily be done with super easy voice assistants on our phone. I do it all the time while driving my car - just press the voice assistant button, say what you want to do and Siri does most of the basic things. Starting music apps or locating a well known place on Google Maps is also very convenient without any hand movement. So, the first solution that came up was get an intercom. And the search started with Parani M10 and went through Cardo, Sena and whatnot. At this moment, I realised that I seldom do group riding and there is no need to spend good money on a good intercom, especially when my helmet is not worth more than 8K, should I be spending 15K on intercom. That too when it will be used sparingly and anyway I would need them in pair.
So, now I know what I need: a cheap wireless headset with mic that I can fit on my helmet (and on my wife's helmet).
Here's what my further search on this product took me to:
- EDYELL: Bluetooth for Helmet | Wireless Dual Earphone On-Ear Helmet Bluetooth V5.4 | HD Calling and HiFi Music | IP67 Waterproof Helmet Bluetooth Headset | Compatible with All Helmets-C5S Price: Rs. 1999
- OTOROYS: Motorcycle Helmet Wireless Dual Earphone On-Ear Helmet Bluetooth Calling and Music with Mic Price: Rs. 1199
There are many other options as well if you just look up for "bluetooth headset for helmets" on Amazon or other e-commerce sites.
I have almost finalised this type of product to get for myself. I just want to know if folks here can suggest me something else better for my use case. Also, have any of you tried out any such product. If yes, what is your view? Would I end up regretting that I wasted my money on this cheap thing and only a good intercom is what I should have gone in the first place. The cheap intercoms start from around 3K (eg. Vnetphone V6) so the price difference is not that huge here.
What's your take guys?
Finally took the plunge and invested in Cardo packtalk. They were running a sale recently and realised that prices have somewhat is comparable to international market (it's still lower).
Another BHPian friend traded in his 10 year old SENA for me and got a further 5 percent discount. Ended up paying 31k Net.

Has anyone tried importing their headsets, especially the cardo/sena units? I find them atleast 7-8k cheaper than what they are sold here. I'm not aware of how much and if I will be charged customs so if anyone has experience with importing them please let me know. I'm looking at motoin.de and motointercom.eu - both have the Cardo Freecom 2x and Spirit/HD for about 8-9k cheaper including shipping!

I wouldn’t bother with something like this via cross border shipping from an international seller for an 8k difference. Either buy it here at the price it’s retailed at or simply buy them when you go abroad or have someone hand carry it for you when he’s coming to India.
Also bear in mind the advantage of having accessible warranty on such electronic devices when you purchase them from official retailers in India.
Thanks Axe77, I'll keep that in mind and maybe ask a friend to get it with him in the next few months if I finalize the Cardo. While I have your attention, do you know which speakers do the Bluarmor C50 series use? They just say "Tuned for Blu" but that doesn't mention which speakers they are. Are they JBL speakers or some offbrand? This will be a huge factor for me in deciding what to buy since audio quality for me is paramount as my 2 wheeler travels are 80% city (low speed so I can and want to hear all the audio in good quality) and 20% on the highways.

No idea off hand but you could see if
this linked post gives you any general idea about this product. It did make some observations on audio quality.
Separately, there are many local sophisticated retailers of Cardo in India (likes of LABS and maybe others like Pathpavers and I’m sure some in B’lore too like bikenbiker or bigbadbikes - at least one of the latter two must be retailing Cardo).
So maybe just call one of them they’ll be able to give you exact information on this aspect to complement the information in the member review above.

Hey DA, it's been 2 months. How is the Edge? I'm planning on buying one as well and would love to hear your thoughts.
Also, to anyone else in the know, who are the trusted retailers for Cardo products either in Chennai or in India when it can be purchased online? Would love to know.

Hi Buddy,
I have used it for few short rides in the last 2 months. Paired it with a friend on one of them.
This is the absolute gold standard when it comes to intercom and using as a regular bluetooth headset. There are no glitches whatsoever.
Most notable thing is, when you are on a call, person on the other side cannot hear any disturbance. They may be surprised if you tell them that you are riding. Sound quality is best, so is music quality.
Check Bikenbiker online. They are cardo dealers.

Exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks!
Checked Bikenbiker, it's almost 40k for the edge. Big bad bikes are offering it for about 34k. Any idea if they are a trusted seller? Never used either seller so not too sure about this.

Big Bad Bikes is the official Importer of Cardo Products in India. They can be trusted and I have ordered a lot from them.
Looks they are running some offers for Cardo products! Grab 'em while they are on sale.

My bad. I meant Bigbadbikes only. I purchased from Lazy Ass Bikers Mumbai but they are sub dealers. My original communication about the offer was with Bigbadbikes only. They directed me to Lazy Ass for the old unit exchange. IIRC I was quoted 34k only. I got a further 5 percent discount for submitting an old SENA my friend had. It was in working condition though.

With custom duty and other charges of around 45-50%, this will be costlier than the price in India.
