Mahindra Two Wheelers has launched its second offering in the motorcycle space, in the form of the Centuro 110cc commuter motorcycle. The Centuro 110 is priced at 45,000 rupees, ex-showroom Delhi. As an introductory offer, the first 10,000 bookings for the Centuro 110 are eligible for an additional 1,000 rupees off.

The motorcycle is available in only one variant (fully loaded) given the fact that the Pantero 110 straddles other price points with no less than 4 variants. Notably, the Mahindra Pantero starts at 39,650 rupees, with its top end variant selling for 43,150 rupees. So, the Centuro sits right above the Pantero in terms of positioning.

The motorcycle was first showcased earlier this year, alongside the Pantero 110, during the former's launch event. The Centuro 110 uses the same 110cc, MCi-5 four stroke engine as its sibling, the Pantero. This (micro chip ignited-5 curve) engine outputs 8.5 Bhp-8.5 Nm and delivers a better fuel economy rating than the Pantero, at an ARAI rated 85.4 Kmpl(The Pantero manages 79.4 Kmpl).

The Centuro also comes with the same wheelbase (1,265 mm) as its sibling whereas ground clearance (173 mm as opposed to the Pantero's 165 mm) is higher. A new intake and ignition system could be the reasons for the higher fuel economy on the Centuro 110, a motorcycle that retains the 4 speed manual gearbox of the Pantero.

The Centuro, by virtue of its positioning at the top of Mahindra Two Wheelers's range, gets a host of equipment, hitherto unseen in the motorcycle segment. Here's a round up:

Alloy wheels and MRF Zapper tyres are standard on the Centuro 110. The motorcycle gets a host of styling elements to distinguish itself from the Pantero such as a new headlamp fairing, twin tubes under the fuel tank and new body panels. A 5 year warranty and a maintenance free battery are standard on the bike, which has been developed entirely at Mahindra Two Wheelers's R&D facility at Chinchwad, Pune.

A few key pointers from the launch event

It's amusing to note that the marketing team were too lazy to find a different pose for the Centuro. Note how most of the pics have the bike in the same pose!

My god , who prepared those posters ! . Anti-theft alarm with remote, that 's something new on a bike . No dics ? . I think those golden teeth are trademark for all Mahindra bikes . Mojo and now on this .

Funny, the posters make me chuckle. Centuro doesn't need a stand to stay upright.
Lets see how this bike is received by the junta. There're so many 100-110cc commuters in the market now. Every company wants a share from that big pie!

I am taking a test ride tomorrow or maybe the day after. If the OTR Bangalore price is reasonable and I like the bike overall, I am booking it right away. All I need is a frugal commuter which can handle city runabouts, potholes, rains, etc really well and do its job right. But The find-me lights (I ALWAYS forget where I parked my bike in malls), encrypted key and engine immobilizer (a lot of bike thefts in Bangalore) and remote locking (not the most useful feature but hey, it is nice to have) are the three features I liked more than anything else.

The bike has two U-shaped pipes running below the tank. Does it have any mechanical part to play or just a styling feature? Anyways, my best wishes for Mahindra.

IIRC, they are tribute to Mojo's underbody pipes.

EDIT: Sorry for such huge pic. It was linked from another thread on team bhp. How do I make it smaller?

MHG: Did you explore this bike further & try it? Can you post your feedback here? BTW, can those golden colored pipes (below the tank) be removed without making it look ugly? Any idea?

Had a short test ride of this bike & a few mins looking at it yesterday evening:
My view:
1. Good for city use. Good riding position (good for back). Felt good during the ride.
2. Very comfortable seat.
3. Good quality tyres (no puncture less tube though)
4. Moves ahead even in 2nd gear.
5. Those golden tubes/pipes dont look soo bad on a real bike. I wish they were of silver color instead of gold. Can remove them n paint them black if needed.
6. comes with all standard accessories & costs 52500 on road in BLR (and it has a tachometer too).
7. FE is expected to be around 75kmpl as the the service guy
8. Engine was smooth upto 60km/hr speeds (which I checked)

9. 3rd gear is useless. Only 4 gears (I shouldn't whine)
10. Wish engine had a bit more power (but was much better than discover 100T)
11. Not so happy with the drum brakes - was not very inspiring to trust enough
12. services & repair limitations due to lack of centres - Carries 5 yr warranty & hence you may need to go to the authorised dealer for service to keep your warranty intact.

Fancy features - very good for the price. Mahindras have a killer product in their hands for the 100cc segment. Hope they encash on the advantages (and fix the brakes).

If this time Mahindra has launched a niggle free product then its good, otherwise it will be tough time to convince the customers after what ever the bad taste they had left in customers mouth when they recalled their first bike.

At present I own a Yamaha FZ. It has one of the most uncomfortable seat on a motorcycle in the world.I had been planning to sell it and get a Activa or some good option.I am getting a price for the FZ at the most 39000/-.I would sell it off go for this bike.FZ has already done 24000 kms. This bike has all the goodies and even more then any other bike with this price tag.Guys please tell me is it wise to do what I have in my mind.Regards

Mahindra Centuro has clocked 10,000 odd bookings in 17 days. Though it is not an extra ordinary figure, it's a decent one I think.

Mahindra Two Wheelers Ltd. has launched the Centuro N1 motorcycle in India. Priced at Rs. 45,700 (ex-showroom, Delhi) or Rs. 46,570 (ex-showroom, Pune), it is a cheaper variant of the standard Centuro.

Wonder why they had to launch another variant with just the instrument console change. Looks like a confused position strategy.

Mahindras have been struggling with their two wheelers business acquired from Kinetic with not a very differentiated product in terms of styling but with some bling features aka Chinese ones.

Instead of putting big money into the highly competitive motorcycle markets, the should bring some more original gearless scooters and scrap the older Kinetic designs that have lived their age.

Mahindra Two Wheelers has started testing a front disc brake-equipped version of the Centuro.
