Re: Another Yamaha RX build...wait, this time it’s different

This thread was lying dormant for a very long time. here is another lease of life to this tiger.

So my friend and the owner of the bike was going through some rough patch "astrologically speaking" and he was banned from riding the bike, for a good 4 Years.

4 Years of sea breeze and extreme neglect took the bike back to the grave(literally)

Pardon the poor pics

The plan was to restore paint since the tank had good amount of rust and the main focus was to get the Bike Re-tested ASAP, The bike was restored cosmetically 4 years ago and things were cleaning up reasonably well.

Before

After

A quick video on how the cleaning was attempted, The video is about an RD but the process was the same.

The engine however was a different story, Most of the oil seals were holding up well but the bearings were shot, the noise that the bike was emitting was not only bad for the ears, it was turning heads in a very wrong way

So decided to rebuild the engine full, change all the cables, rubber parts and all the nuts and bolts were to be replaced.

Took the engine out

Engine was dirty, but was sealed and was standard size. Decided to change the rings first but the piston had a small chip so ended up replacing the whole piston.

Pics of the rebuild:

Work in progress but the old beast is back

Another quick vide on the rebuilt seat for this bike and the shogun

The bike is not started yet, this will be attempted this week when I get some free time. The accelerator cable played spoil sport on Sunday when starting was planned, it was short in length and the slide was left completely open, making it surge to higher RPM. This was an OE cable bought from a Yamaha spares shop.

I will keep you guys posted with the latest pics and videos
