Sorry to hear about your ordeal. Regarding the replacement of filter cartridges, you are forced to replace the cartridges earlier on as the same is not complete.

The full cartridge assembly should be as in the following pictures

If you are using the full assembly, then the expensive cartridge replacement interval can be extended. All you have to replace is the external filter which costs around Rs.100/- per piece. I use the same face mask for spray painting and I only replace the cartridge filled with activated charcoal when I begin to get a whiff of paint. Otherwise I regularly replace the outer filter.

Thank you for the excellent tip
I was looking for this but it was turning out to be expensive as it is not available in just a pair, have to buy a pack. I will try to check the local market and see if someone is ready to sell only a pair of retainers and the prefilter.

However, I am a bit disappointed as it didn't work out as expected. The plastic material is not that pliant as the face mask and it hurts if worn for long.
Why not use Snowboarding/Motocross goggles? They are meant to be worn along with a helmet, comfortable and don't fog.

@Adrian Could you please do us a favor and post links from Amazon to the items you are using? (Regardless of where you actually bought your cartridges). This will help us get the right items without confusion. Thanks in advance.

I had bought the items from my local automotive paint shop.

Amazon links are as follows :

There are several type of filters available from 3M with respect to the environment you are working in. The following is a guide from which you can choose from
