I've seen many TVS XL bikes in my locality, so it's definitely sold in bigger towns & cities.

Even though it's power is less compared to a 100 cc bike, the torque is quite decent, specially considering that it weighs less than a typical 100 cc bike (88 kg compared to 100 kg for Honda Shine 100 cc). Also, the Heavy Duty version (payload specs 130 kg) is specifically targeted towards customers who regularly haul loads like milk cans, e-commerce delivery goods etc. So, I don't think there should be any issue in climbing steep inclines with a pillion. If you manage to get a test ride, you can ride it on your typical route and see how it performs with a pillion.

You might want to consider one thing before taking a decision - the Heavy Duty version's shock absorber is more oriented towards the above function, while the Comfort version's shock absorber is more oriented towards commuter duties.

My recommendation - go for it (in the Blue or Green colour )!

Thanks so much!

Yes, am torn between the Green colour (remembering my friend's Green XL that we used to ride all over as teens in the 90s) and now the beautiful blue that @rrnsss has posted earlier on this thread!

Will visit the showroom in a week or so and see what they have. Thanks for all the info!

Price update: Went to the nearest showroom to ask about the XL, it is available even in cities and bigger towns, so no problem. The price on road for the cheapest version is almost 68k! Still keen on it, but hard to justify a moped at that price. (Though with a 100cc engine, I guess it's not really a moped anymore.)

Re: TVS XL 100 - Ownership Review

Hello Everyone!

I know this post is going to be very strange, but trust me it could be an interesting one.

To start off, we have had several two-wheelers over the past few years in our family (The mass market ones), which used to get the job done, but not really fun or "cool" to drive. As most of this was during my childhood, I was fascinated about them, but never got to work on it. I used to watch several videos on YouTube as to how engines work, the vehicle reviews and ownership reviews too.

Fast forward, I am in the final year of my Electrical Engineering, have been part of Formula Student (Electric) for 4 years, and pursuing my internship at a battery manufacturing startup. I have gained a great amount of experience over the past few years technically (EV Powertrain, Battery Packs, Controllers, BMS..) and non-technically (Sponsorships, Social Media, Photography,...).

I'll cut directly to the chase; I am looking to buy a "fun", "cool" two wheeler, light on the pocket, with spares widely available, easy to work on. I am looking at this as a fun weekend project. There were very few vehicles I could shortlist and you know which one gained my attention? Yes, the TVS XL!

Over the past few days, I have been going through everything that's available on the internet regarding the TVS XL. I must admit, I couldn't find a lot of information. I am glad i bumped across this thread.

Why do I plan on buying a used TVS XL? Simple, to get my hands dirty, and learn a few things while working on the vehicle. This will also help me go out and learn about dealers, workshops, and spares.

What's my budget? 20,000 (For Now)

What do I plan on doing with the vehicle? There are two options really. One, get a dirt cheap used TVS XL, have it thorougly checked, get all the spares needed, have it repainted and get it back to the stock condition. Second, get a dirt cheap used TVS XL, install an electric powertrain in it. In either of the conditions, I still have an option to modify a few things here and there (To make it look "Cool").

The second option is not very appealing as the market is flooded with electric vehicle like the TVS XL and the costs incurred for the installation will be slightly high as compared to the first option.

Before I proceed further, I am looking for a few answers to the queries listed below:
  • Feasibility: Do you think taking on the project of a TVS XL is viable?
  • Budget Justification:With a budget of 20,000, do you believe it's sufficient for either restoring the TVS XL to its original condition?
  • Preparation and Research:What are some key things I should know about the TVS XL model before diving into this project? Are there common issues or obstacles I should anticipate?
  • Model Recommendations:Which specific models or versions of the TVS XL are ideal for this project, and are there any models I should avoid?
  • Learning Resources:Where can I find reliable resources to learn more about the TVS XL, its mechanics, and possible modifications? Are there any recommended websites, or literature?
  • Sourcing TVS XL:Does anyone have tips or recommendations on where to find used TVS XL models for sale in Bangalore? Are there trusted dealerships, online listings, or private sellers known for offering these vehicles?
I'm eager to hear your answers and advice. Your input would be immensely valuable.

Thanks in advance for your help!
