Re: Yamaha YZF-R3 : Ownership Review

An update after a long time.

16,000 milestone

Mileage Updates

Got the HSRP plates installed on the bike

There was a mild leakage from the front fork. Got the spring and oil seal replaced along with a slightly thicker 15W grade oil. I wanted the front fork to be a little stiffer.

Apart from this got the brake pads changed. Front had worn out a lot more than the rear ones. Got both the front and rear brake pads replaced along with the brake fluid as it was already older than 2 years.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R3 : Ownership Review

Hi everyone,

I’m on the lookout for a pre-owned Yamaha R3 in Bangalore.
Are high mileage examples (30,000Kms to 40,000kms) safe to be considered? What I’d like to know is, if Yamaha R3’s engine and internals are bulletproof like other Japanese multi-cylinder bikes? I’ve seen on international forums that most of the Japanese bikes have bulletproof engines which can last close to a lakh kilometres or more. Would like to hear your thoughts about R3. Please do share any red flags that one must look out in a preowned R3.

@Nkrishnap thanks for this wonderful ownership review. It’s a treasure trove of information 🙏🏾

Cheers,

@ nkrishnap
If you plan to sell your R3 in next few months, please let me know 😁. I’ll be very happy to buy it from you.

R3 is an amazing motorcycle with bullet proof engine. As long as, it is reasonably maintained, it will easily last more than 1 lakh km. 30K/40K km is nothing for R3. In our R3 group, we have already members crossed 1 lakh km. Also, the spares are well priced compared to Kawasaki, but you may need to pre-order and wait for a few weeks, as some of them are not readily available from shelf. Regular consumables parts are easily available.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R3 : Ownership Review

The bike has been sitting idle for a few weeks now and the battery is showing signs of age at 6+ years. I will replace the same shortly to ensure no surprises are thrown up during the sparse rides that I take up now a days. A few hundred kms to clock 20K on the odo.
