Re: April 2019: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

Thanks for sharing once again CD. Somehow the tables are a little blurry this time, I had to open up the tables in new windows to be able to read them clearly. Im not sure if its an issue at my end. After seeing the mismatches between the numbers reported to SIAM and the ground realities, Im not a 100% convinced in the accuracy of these numbers.

Nonetheless, Mahindra having zero dispatches for the month of April raises questions. They have social media updates of deliveries happening on the 2nd and 3rd of May.

April 2019: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis-1.png

But with no dispatches in the month of April, how is this possible? So either
- Mahindra's social media team is incorrect and has posted misleading and false posts claiming deliveries have begun or
- Mahindra is reporting wrong numbers to SIAM

Anyways, I just spoke to the Classic Jawa dealership in Cochin. Deliveries started at the end of last month (am unable to verify this). I think he mentioned 10 vehicles are already handed over. Now they have 5 vehicles being delivered tomorrow and around 20 are lined up for next week.

Re: April 2019: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

350cc+ bikes: Good to see upward trend for RE twins, however waiting time still in months, plenty of backlog order I guess.

For the graph, it's cluttered at bottom with most models fighting for space. It would be better if we have zoomed view at bottom of chart. With one model having 50k+ numbers and rest below 5k, trends at bottom of pile are missing.

It's most likely that Classic Legends isn't sharing their monthly dispatch numbers with SIAM, again an issue with their transparency. Social media posts suggests continuous deliveries for jawa bikes, however some of those posts are reportedly repetitive and doesn't portray true picture.

Re: April 2019: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

I visited Jawa dealership in Gurgaon about 3 weeks ago and they were promising delivery in 3 months. Assuming the demand is overwhelming enough to shut down online bookings, and looking at these numbers, it's very hard to imagine if Jawa would be able to deliver anything in 3 months.

I would like to see Ather sales in future. Right now they are not releasing any sales figures officially, as they are still in early stages of their first model and only single city. As and when Ather and others start releasing EV numbers we can have separate column for that.

Good to see 650 Twins from Royal Enfield steadily increasing their nunbers every month. It's commendable despite the niggles they have.

390s, Apache RR310, R3, Ninja 300 all are loosing volumes MOM. RE 650s are definatly cannibalizing sub 500 market. KTM need to fasttrack 390 adv. And Yamaha have to follow Kawasaki way to localise R3. And make it competative in the market. Dominar is doing decent numbers. I haven't seen a Honda cb300r on road yet.

Re: April 2019: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

Recently launched Hero Xtream 200s and Gixer sf 150 must be luring prospective buyers, giving hard time to Yamaha R15.

I wonder how much is the sale of R15 S as it is competitively priced as compared to R15 V3. Heard rumor that Yamaha will soon discontinue R15 S model from India, is it true?

I like R15 S more than R15 V3 due to its practical pillion seat. Also, I'm thinking of buying one, since few months. Of all three, which would be better option?

I would prefer YZF R15 V3. It is more engaging to ride. It also looks fantastic as compared to other two mentioned options. It is reasonably fuel efficient too. Offcource, it is not very comfortable to ride long distances.

But when you add Yamaha's reliability into the equation, R15 is ahead of the three.

Got my eye on the S for a while now, one advantage I see over the V3 is the lack of electronic VVA, as the saying goes 'Mo Electronics, Mo Trouble'.

And for the price being offered it is a steal which is a statement I can't believe I'm making.

Thought the position is engaging it is not as troublesome as the V2/3 and it can do 110kmph at peak torque while returning figures around the 40~45kmpl mark, which is awesome considering that my P220 does only 100kmph at peak torque and returns FE around the 35kmpl mark.

Though FE is not a primary concern per say, it does become quite significant when on a multiple day ride.
