Anyway when there can be a KTM 125 Duke... Isn't there space for a Pulsar 125?

On that note, I don't understand the point of the Duke 125 either. Like at that point, wouldn't it make more sense to put out a sporty scooter instead?

But that's just me

There is already a thread running on launch of Pulsar 125 Here.

Can we merge this thread with that one?

The difference is that Duke 125 has a lot of tech that is offered in the higher cc Dukes. The power figures are almost matching some 150 cc commuters. So essentially you get a proper 'Duke'.

Pulsar 125 on the other hand does not offer anything that would make a buyer feel he bought the 'Pulsar'. Its almost like a Discover in Pulsar's clothing. The brand stood for powerful bikes at affordable price. The brand would not have diluted if they had launched Pulsar 125 NS with diamond frame (like 160 NS), mono suspension and 4 valve engine with double disk brakes. Do note that the 135 LS was the first Pulsar to have 4 valve engine and was pretty rev happy. It needed some changes to looks and dynamics (to sporty handle bar position ?).

It's not that bad actually.

The "sporty" FZ16 makes a measly 13Hp for what it claims.
This Chotu-Pulsar makes 12Hp.

Should be fine for those on a shoe string budget, and still want a Pulsar (For whatever reason maybe).

I am really interested to TDing the drum variant of the Pulsar 125 to see how is the stopping the power. What made the Pulsar unique back in 2001 was that the disc wasn't offered as optional. It was standard. And now this?

I know that. I was referring to Duke 125 not being compared with these bikes since it doesn't fall in this price. Your above statement is invalid since I mentioned in my original post as to why the Pulsar was a bit pricey since it literally falls in the same price range. A bit more competitive pricing (say 60-61kish) would have made more sense. Interestingly, the on-road price of the 125 Drum brake variant here is 75,729 compared to Shine's 78k and Glamour Fi's 82k.

In spite of all this, the Pulsar 150 is the top selling motorcycle in its class! Also, this particular shape is now reserved for the 125 & 150 only. The 180 is available only with the fairing nowadays, similar to the 220. The NS/RS always looked different.

Bajaj doesn't seem to be bothered about brand dilution, as long as the cash registers keep ticking. The failure of the Dominar to assert itself in the 400 cc class is also partly due to the brand image. Thankfully, they didn't call it the Pulsar 400 (as the concept was introduced)! Still, the premium customer couldn't relate with Bajaj as well as they could with KTM or even Royal Enfield!

I never considered the NS/RS as truer Pulsars since the shared underpinnings with the KTM's itself. They're far better vehicles than Pulsar (yes, I've had the chance to own a NS160).

I think the name Pulsar CS/VS 400 would have helped them to keep the cash registers ticking instead of the name Dominar. A name can make a lot of difference. Bajaj became greedy and itself did what I call:

The whole "Haathi maat paalo" concept of Dominar was itself was changed with this year's model.

Bajaj launched Dominar with the concept of Night Riding, as the lights had a range of 1 Km. C'mon, here you have a bike that 400 CC and you should go to town with that raw power announcement. Also, this segment is largely word of mouth and people shy away from making the first move, till they hear from their peers that the product is 'bullet-proof'. Was the product that good? How were the bike forum reports? Those should be controlled. I feel these aspects harmed the Dominar.

That was exactly the idea.. i.e to make the Pulsar 125 a "pricy" option.

BTW do check out price of the Shine SP too.

"The parent brand dilutes brand of it sister brand and therefore there are changes of happening with the Dominar as well" - Consumers don't think so DEEP.

How many Dominars turned your head when one whizzed passed you on road? Chances are that many of them might have been misktaken to be a Pulsar.

Why would a consumer wish to spend nearly 2 lakhs for a model that gets mistaken to be a model that costs 50%?

I guess you guys need to double check the pricing as both the SP Shine and P125 are from the same price range if not the Pulsar being slightly cheaper by a round off margin.

While with the Shine you'd be paying for the Honda badge. When it comes to the little Pulsar you'd be paying for tangible features, do correct me if I'm wrong.

Rajiv / his team have absolutely screwed up the legends image by downgrading rather than upgrading. What happened to P250 & the upper models? They went busy rejuvenating dominar brand. I have a P220 FI and the engine is in immaculate condition even after 62k kms even after 12 years of usage. I only wished they focused more on this brand instead of just sticking to KTM’s engine usage on P200NS and rest of AS & NS versions we have on sale now.

Just like how Hero killed legendary ZMA with ZMR series, Bajaj is doing the same thing. TVS took their time but came out with a neatly executed version of RR310. But, Bajaj is not going beyond 220cc at all (excluding D400).

Hope they wake up soon instead of just blaming the low sales / government policies screwing things up for them.
