I'm really curious whats happening at Jawa? With all the bookings and hype around it - there are no dispatches at all! The company just announced one 'anniversary edition' today as well - is this just some marketing stunt to remain in the news?

Classic legends hasn't reported dispatch figures to SIAM after Apr 2019. Dispatches are definitely happening. I had accompanied my friend for his Jawa PDI couple of weeks back and Baner, Pune dealer had good stock for deliveries lined up in festive season. My friend's bike delivery estimator was showing Dec'19 for delivery, however he got it 2 months in advance. So, either estimator promised less or production has improved.

Classic legends are good at creating hype & active at social media all the time. They seem to be doing good things, should help them in long term in establishing the brand. However, it needs to be well supplemented in bike production ramp-up.

Sad to see Bajaj languishing so far down the chart. There used to be a time when the top 2 spots would be between Hero Honda and Bajaj with TVS a distant third.The company needs to reinvent itself and launch some exciting products that the current generation can relate to.

TVS NTORQ has waiting period, so I'm assuming it is doing well. Activa is slightly down, but BS6 models will change that. I was doing the rounds and can sense a lot of pent-up demand - which will see a surge in auto sales post BS6 implementation. Lot of enquiries but customers are just holding their purchases.

Looking at the numbers, pretty decent show for overall market. Looks like 2 wheeler industry is not affected much and we cannot call this as a recession for sure. Sales are hardly 10-15% down overall.

Gear less scooters are doing extremely well. People prefer it as it can be driven by anyone at home which is not the case for bikes which can be driven mainly by men only. Bajaj is lagging behind & they need one good bike in 100-125 cc category. TVS is doing good.

Not sure where else to post. Why aren’t we seeing more scooters with 14” or 15” wheels in India ? Isn’t the larger wheel size ideal for India with our terrible roads ? Also such scooters are already in the global line up of HONDA, YAMAHA, SUZUKI and I think even TVS has such an export model. Is it just the price ? I mean how much more expensive can a 14” wheel be compared to the 12” ones ?

I am surprised suzuki is ahead of Yamaha. I think the updated gixxer and the tried and tested access has helped suzuki here.

Seeing the numbers, I am wondering how Triumph is managing. They are dispatching less than a 40 bikes a month, with even the tiger moving just 4 units.
How long before they decide to cut losses, or will the partnership with Bajaj be moved up to launch a new bike soon?

For a developing/growing economy, even a single digit drop in consumption trend is sign of a recessionary trend. Unless it's for a category which is redundant itself, which is not the case here.

Either there is lack of disposable income as compared to earlier, or the populace is being extremely conservative with spending on big ticket items ('big ticket' is completely relative to the subset being considered), both of which are worrying.

I could not find the September thread, so I am posting it in the August one.

Here are the sales figures of major players in the Indian two-wheeler market over the past four months with a Month-on-Month comparison.



What is interesting to note here is that, unlike the four-wheeler market, Diwali has had a negligible impact on the whole in two-wheeler sales, with all the players on an average maintaining their sales figures over the past few months.

This could be due to the two-wheeler having bottomed out before the two-wheeler market, the two-wheeler plunge had happened last year and has recovered since then.



When looking at it from the point of view of last years sales, it is clear to see that the two-wheeler industry is far off the highs of the last two years. Hero MotorCorp usual 6.5 lakh to 7.0 lakh sales figures are down to 5.5 lakh to 6 lakh and has stayed there for a while now.
