re: Ather 450X electric scooter with improved performance. EDIT: Launched, prices start at ₹99,999

If anybody is still interested, here is one unused invite from my side.

8CD9D8

Between, my pre order went through without any hitch. I will take a call whether to go ahead with booking or not after the reveal. Hope they have improved the range as I'm happy with the power.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm pretty happy with the power. A slight increase in power is ok for me. But I hope the battery is improved by a lot. If I can get 80kms in Sports mode in real conditions (meaning lots of accelerating ), I would be very happy.

Other than that, I would like the response of the touch screen to be improved. The current screen feels a bit like the windows CE navigation devices I used to have earlier. They need a way better processor than the current one.

The other pain point is the Vodafone 3G service, which absolutely sucks, atleast where I stay. If they can move to 4G and get a better service provider, I would be happy.

Can't wait to see what they have cooked up.

The beauty of an EV is that if they include a bigger battery pack, they can also enable users to decide, on the fly, whether to divert that extra capacity towards range or speed.

For example, they could include a "super-sport" mode to the 450X. This mode could maintain the range of the current sports mode but allow higher top speeds. While the existing Sport/Ride/Econ modes will then come with added range at the same/similar top-speeds of the base 450.

re: Ather 450X electric scooter with improved performance. EDIT: Launched, prices start at ₹99,999

Test rode the 450 late last year, because I was looking at a short distance run-around. I found the ride and the seat a bit firm. Enjoyed the whine (that to me sounded like Luke Skywalker's skiff on Tattooine). However, wasn't convinced that I'd be able to set up an appropriate charging point in the apartment complex in which I live. Was also not convinced of the strength of the aluminium frame (in the event of a tip-over). Also was unable to get over the range anxiety I felt (even before booking the machine). Ultimately folded and got the Aprilia 150. Don't regret the decision, but wistfully look at electric scooters now and wish things were a little different. Look forward to the 450X just to see how Ather will up its game.

Hey, if anyone is interested in preordering the 450X, here is my code : KP7F1L.
Please do reply to this if you are using it. I think it can be used more than once.

Here are my 2 Pre-Order codes, if anyone wants to use to pre-book the Ather 450x, please go-ahead. I do not see the Ather being available in my tier 2 city anytime soon.
Waiting for the Bajaj Cheetak Electric, which might retail here some time soon via KTM dealerships.

I really wish they put a type 2 plug. I have a 15 Amp charging point at home for E2O, a CCS type 2 connector for 7.2Kw charger for kona, cannot put a new charger.

Why can't these guys decide on a standard and stick to it. Use CCS, Chademo or tesla type 2, but Ather decides to come up with a unique adapter of their own, have prebooked 450x, but if they stick to their unique standard, will cancel the reservation.

I don't expect the scooter side connector to change in the 450x. It will remain the same custom type that the 450 has at present. However compared to my first version of 450, the home charger for the present 450 (which most possibly will continue for the 450x too) connects to a 15A socket. So the point that you've for the E2O can be used. Couple of pictures of the home chargung unit from the Ather forum are below. Mot just the home pod, even the portable charger connects to a 15A socket on the wall side.

But I agree, standardized connectors must come sooner than later.

The rise of EVs in the last couple of months has been awesome! The Athers, Chetaks and others will make it an interesting segment to watch. What’s going to be interesting is the way the giants react. The Japanese trio that have been ahead with technology might have to pull a rabbit out of their hat.
Interestingly, it’s amusing to note that no one has come up with a reliable solar charging facility. Just imagine if someone makes a reliable and effective solar charging infra, it would result in an EV boom.
Companies could use this to provide charging stations in open parking. Employees could simply drive to office, get the vehicle charged in the time they spend at their office (typically 7-8 hours of sun time). All this could come at reasonable rates and could also be offered as tax incentives to the company and the employee.
