The perfect touring machine Something which the D400 set out to be, now yours for 15 odd kilos less, plus a few BHPs more!.

re: The KTM 390 Adventure (Gen- 1) Ownership Thread!

The 390 Adv was in any case a touring biased ADV which can handle trails and the rough stuff. Even there, bikes like the Himalayan sported a plusher suspension.

The more I think of it, I wonder if those considering this lowered 390A might actually be better off just buying a regular Duke 390 instead. At least it’ll be more fun in street mode and should still be able to handle the rough stuff to some extent.

The Duke 390 has a smaller tank, plus the foot pegs are higher and more rear set than the ADV which translates into a more aggressive (and less comfortable) naked streetfighter stance.

BS4 Duke might be able to handle rough stuff better compared to BS6 Duke in which the ground clearance has been reduced to 151 mm due to the secondary CAT-CON routing. One of the main reasons I choose ADV compared to Duke was that I did not want to worry about "super-scientific" speed breakers present on our Indian roads.

re: The KTM 390 Adventure (Gen- 1) Ownership Thread!

The hose connecting coolant reservoir and engine has come off on my 390 adv on the engine side and i can't find where it is supposed to be connected. Can some one direct me where the hose is supposed to be connected on the engine side?
P.S the only a few drops of coolant has leaked on the sump guard while mild off roading and has remained at that.

Regards,
MiSiMa

Which dealerships do you recommend in Mumbai if I can ask (preferably within South Mumbai, certainly not further north than Bandra / SCruz on the West and perhaps Chembur in the East)? I have been vaguely toying with the idea of adding a small capacity KTM but not really sure about it.

I have interacted a few years ago with Francis at KTM Baner and he seemed really helpful and knowledgeable. Disappointed to hear that their service isn't great.

I personally trust and work with S K Automobiles in Chembur, Sanpada and Bhiwandi. Owned by a single person and run like a tight ship. If you find Kailash there tell him Partha sent you.

re: The KTM 390 Adventure (Gen- 1) Ownership Thread!

Hello folks,
I am getting a good deal on a preloved '20 model year 390 ADV. Besides the rider modes (which can be installed via a software update) & lighter alloys is there any difference between new and old ones?

KTM is known to offer engine refinements over a period of time, but I am yet to come across anything as such for the 390 adv. Looking forward to your inputs.

Thanks,
Hiren

Hiren, what’s the use case please. I had heard from some grapevine that the SW version will mostly launch by the end of this month and there’s a good chance it’ll come with tubeless spoke wheel AND adjustable suspension. Will be tagged Rally / R version. This is unverified of course but if I were buying I’d hold out to check if this is true.

If you’re not too price sensitive to the purchase then both these are huge factors - specially the adjustable suspension if that turns out to be true. To me, that could make a significant improvement to the riding dynamics of the bike - good enough to warrant waiting and plonking the extra for that feature.

re: The KTM 390 Adventure (Gen- 1) Ownership Thread!

Went down to a KTM store and booked a 390x they do not have much of details about the exact specs and timing of the delivery for first batch. However it’s in the process, maybe end of this month they will start pumping out good numbers, there are 2 bookings prior to me in this showroom! Coming to SW version it will be a lot more than the outgoing 390 and will be launched soon, but there are no absolute answers if the launch will be on 24th or not! But it’s certainly around the corner.

Hey Axe,
This will be a second bike in my garage complementing the Z900. I will be using this primarily for my commutes (Borivali to Airoli via Ghodbunder/Thane). I will also be using this for longer tours n trips where the Z900 will be uncomfortable. I am not too keen on spoked version as I do not see myself venturing too much off the beaten path. And the lesser I spend the better.

I could very well get a small commuter but 'Dil Maange More' and that's when I decided to add a bike that will make my garage complete.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Hiren

Mine is a Feb'20 (kind of first batch) and somehow I've found the latter batches (21/22) with lower NVH levels than mine (while at the ASC) but those bikes had significantly lower ODO reading. When I asked the SVC guys if the newer bikes came with a different state of tune or if the hardware had changed, they answered in negative.

I feel these manufacturers quietly make changes to these things without announcing them to the public. It’s only when experienced people (owners) check it out the differences are felt. They don’t want to advertise these things because then they would have to explain or accept their offering was not up to the mark earlier

Cheers

Yup, it can be seen in the poster as well. Glad to see it is being considered in international markets even with the availability of 790 and 890 Adventures there.

re: The KTM 390 Adventure (Gen- 1) Ownership Thread!

After doing a lot of research and consulting with fellow riders, I decided to go with the Moto Torque crash guard. Two key factors influenced my decision:

Firstly, unlike other brands where the crash guard is a single piece, the Moto Torque crash guard comes as an individual piece on both sides.

Secondly, the build quality of the Moto Torque crash guard surpasses that of other brands such as Zana and Fantasia, and it is also relatively lighter.
