Hey! Booked the 2023 KTM 390 Adventure Rally and getting impatient by the hour to bring it home. Meanwhile I’ve been thinking about what I’d like to upgrade on the bike at the showroom (not a lot of options there really). Has anyone used the premium Navigation plan from KTM? Is it worth it? Do features like live traffic and speed cam alert work (well) in India? It’d be great to hear from someone who has experience with the feature. Thanks in advance!

Cheers.

And spoke wheels have tubes. And tubes can fail. How much highway-safe will this bike be with tubed tyres since it can carry some seriously good cruising speeds. How durable will these be for road use? I don't want to carry the risk of being stranded.
That’s exactly the predicament I’m in as well. How I wish there were an option to swap the spoke wheels with tubeless alloys. That would really put my mind at ease (relatively) since I travel alone and I wouldn’t wanna get stranded with a flat. I assume that fixing it would be just shy of a nightmare, what with needing to disassemble the wheel and the acrobatics needed to get the tube out. Carrying a portable tyre inflator around always isn’t that appealing either.

Congrats. Which showroom did you book with please? Any plans to convert the rims to tubeless using outex or similar solution?

What was the final on road price (any discounts?). Do ask them for extended warranty. They often throw it in as par for course without charge. Please do check.

I've booked from Ahuja KTM in Sakinaka, Andheri East. The on-road price is coming to Rs. 431928 (if I remember correctly. Will update if that isn't the case).

I'll make sure to ask about the extended warranty.

As for the tubeless solution, I think I'm gonna wait a while to do the mod. Another mod I was keen on was getting the 14T sprocket for the front. Wondering whether I should get that done immediately after delivery or wait till run-in period is up. Insufficient low-end torque is bothersome to me.

Did you check with the showroom, I feel they must be selling the alloy wheels (tubeless tyres you can get from anywhere) separately. This should be a normal spare part for customers, otherwise what would happen to people who have the normal version and need replacement of their alloys for whatever reason.

Cheers

Sorry, I should've been more clear. I meant I wish they had an option to swap the spoke wheels for alloys right at the time of purchase. That way we wouldn't have to buy a new set of alloy wheels and hold on to the spoke wheels that come off.

The ADV R variant tyres are already tubeless. Its the spoke wheels that are not tubeless compatible so net net its a tubed wheel set up.

Like I clarified on the 390 Spoke Wheel (SW) thread, buying an SW variant today and swapping the wheels for the regular 390’s alloys are not possible since they have a different hub or something. If someone is really keen on getting adjustable suspension + alloys as their set up, the only way to do this would be to buy the regular / X alloy wheel variant and swap out the suspension with the adjustable suspension. As a minor side point, I think it’ll warrant changing the side stand too to accommodate the new suspension. Not sure about that last bit though but should be minor.

I would say wait. It will not take long to get adjusted to it's behavior. Ride it for 5000 km in a mixture of conditions and then take a call, regarding this mod or accessories. For someone like me who has gotten accustomed to torque (Scorpio+Himalayan) for close to 9 years now, it only took 5 minutes to get adjusted to the fact that I have to rev a little more, rather than release the clutch like I do regularly.

That's quite unfortunate. The colour option for the Rally variant isn't available in the regular variant. Also, the suspension swap isn't immediately available (what the showroom guys said) so we'll have to wait a little for that. And that still leave a spare set of suspensions I wouldn't know what to do with. But I guess I'm being overly picky in an otherwise great bike.

It's quite nice to hear that the torque wasn't bothersome for you coming from a Himalayan. I think I'll wait for a while before deciding to do any mods.

Thank you so much for your suggestions!!

The showroom guys called yesterday and said that the bike will be offloaded today and I could go and check it out. My heart is thumping out of my chest. I'm so excited.

Anything I should look out for on the bike before I take delivery? (I've gone through some PDI posts already. Anything peculiar to the KTM 390 Adv would be helpful). Thanks again.

Congrats on your new ride Zen, enjoy it to the fullest. Ride the bike a few weeks before you jump on the mods bandwagon. Get to know the bike and its behavior and then start adding things to add to riding experience.
This way you get to truly make the bike your own and you'd get to appreciate the bike more. The joy and satisfaction you'd get slowing the bike's issue is a cherry on top of the already delicious cake.

Have fun!

Thanks Hiren. I'm gonna wait a while and decide accordingly, other than a crash guard and mobile charging unit that I'm gonna get right away.
Keeping mods for later also makes sense cos it can almost be like two different experiences of the same bike.

My bad actually I just re-read and understood your original point. I thought you meant buy the stock SW version and swap it for alloys, which is where the hub issue comes in. Even color preference aside, I do agree with you. Right off the factory floor they should have offered this option - to get an adjustable suspension variant with either alloys or spoke wheels as per customer preference. Basically add the adjustable suspension to the normal variant and offer a full blown R with the spoke wheels for the purists.

Ironic that despite such a wide range of options they’re still missing that one crucial combo.

Regardless, I’m just glad they’ve fixed the all important and missing adjustable suspension option on the one hand and broadened the interest base by offering the X at the other end of the spectrum.

Good luck with your new purchase and do post pictures here once its landed.

Slight correction here. The on-road price is 4,36,000.

Does the 14T sprocket mod void warranty? Do we gain lower end pull/acceleration while sacrificing top end with this mod?

SS Motocorp Handlebar Risers

I recently purchased and installed the SS Motocorp handlebar risers on my motorcycle, and I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with the results. These 2-inch risers have made a significant difference in my riding experience, making it much more comfortable and enjoyable.

Before making the purchase, I had the opportunity to test them on my friend's bike, and I was immediately convinced that they would be a perfect fit for my height. The handlebar risers provided just the right amount of elevation, allowing me to maintain a more natural and relaxed riding position.

The extended clutch cable is included with the handlebar risers

Since the installation, I have covered approximately 320 kilometres on my motorcycle, and I can confidently say that the handlebar risers have exceeded my expectations. The improved ergonomics have significantly reduced the strain on my wrists and shoulders, particularly during long rides. The added comfort and ease of handling have made my overall riding experience much more enjoyable.

Considering the price of ₹1,950 that I paid for these handlebar risers, I believe they offer excellent value for money.

DENSO Waterproof Electric Trumpet Horn

I upgraded the horn on my motorcycle to the DENSO, and I have been extremely satisfied with its performance. I couldn’t capture the best pictures during the installation process due to time constraints

I purchased the DENSO horn along with the necessary relay and wiring from Gear Gear Motorcycle in Bangalore. The total cost of the horn, including shipping, came up to ₹ 2635 rupees. The horn itself was priced at ₹ 1560 rupees, while the wiring cost ₹ 875 rupees and ₹200 for shipping.

When I was considering horn options, I received various recommendations, including the simple Bosch horn available at any mechanic store or the Denali SoundBomb Mini. However, I ultimately chose the DENSO horn for several reasons. Firstly, it is a dual horn. Additionally, it's waterproof.

I have attached a link to hear the sound of the horn. Play the video from 10 sec time. The sound output is impressive, and it has made a noticeable difference in gaining the attention of particularly larger vehicles like trucks on the highways.
