Re: August 2020: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

Interesting to see two-wheeler sales pick up. Thanks to the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, people must be quite wary of taking public transport and this would naturally mean an increase in two-wheeler sales. But the overall economic hit and job losses would also negate some of that.

Did Mahindra & Classic Legends actually fail to sell a single two-wheeler? Or did they not share their monthly sales figure?

Thanks for sharing Anurag. Good to see the two wheeler market almost back to pre-Covid levels.

They do not share the dispatch numbers. However - going by the data from FADA, there may be a good reason for the secrecy as dealers aren't really selling many bikes anyways.

Re: August 2020: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

In the 250cc segment , most , if not all , reviews mentions Suzuki Gixxer 250 as a better buy than FZ25 . Gixxer is superior spec-wise as well , at a premium of 20K though.

The MoM data shows Suzuki Gixxer 250 sales decline or remains constant and Yamaha FZ25 is the second best performer.

Look wise I love FZ25 more than Gixxer 250 , and watching the market for the upcoming Honda , RE releases eagerly. As a potential buyer in 250cc+ segment , I couldn't help asking the following.

For a 250cc segment buyer , does a 20K difference matter that much or are there anything more to it that meets the eye ?

KTM seems to be missing from this list. Have they been added to the Bajaj sales numbers for the month?

To some extent of course. 20k is a pretty substantial amount for a market like India. Other than that yamaha has far more dealer spread. Suzuki service is not the best as well. I have heard a lot of horror stories.

Look at the data in 'Bajaj' and you'll find numbers for the KTM motorcycles.

Herley Davidson

No wonder "Herley" Davidson had to go!

On a serious note though, it really is pleasant news that the Indian two-wheeler market is bouncing back. The Chinese coronavirus has dealt a blow to our industries like nothing else and I wish them fair winds here on.

Surprising that the Duke 390 and the 650 Twins aren't doing good numbers. I have a Duke 390 myself and have never been a Royal Enfield fan (almost bought the Continental GT 535 instead of my Duke in 2015 though, but that's another story) however that changed when I rode the Interceptor 650. I loved it to bits and if I didn't already have a bike that's as fast and fun, I would've booked it. Royal Enfield's V-A-S-T and vastly improved dealer and service network is an added bonus! Sad that the 'enthusiast' market isn't gobbling up the superbly engineered and enormously fun 650. Oh well.

Pulsar 125 is seriously having some good numbers, what discover, xcd and vikrant couldn't do for bajaj is being being done by their 20 year old design. There is something special with the design of the pulsar which attracts our public even after all those years. It is indeed Definitely Male.

Maybe the 'Pulsar' brand name is helping in this case of better sales numbers versus the numbers from XCD125/Vikrant.

But the pulsar name didn't work in the case of pulsar 135, it was in the budget segment as well. It is the design man, pulsar 135 looks starved in front of the pulsar 125 macho muscular design.

Most of the people who are buying the bike grew up looking at pulsars, so they have the nostalgic attraction as well, moreover in the ocean of plain jane 125cc commuter bikes like shine, glamour etc. pulsars look different.

Looking at Triumph's sales I think only youtubers are buying their bikes.

Guess they will be next in line after Harley Davidson.
