This Yamaha is something that no body asked for.
I think this will sell in somewhat acceptable numbers. But what they now need to do is to upgrade the FZ25 with more power(at least 25 bhp), the missing sixth cog and complete revamp of the front with new look headlamp unit. This should be their:Cheering best gift to the die-hard Yamaha fans.

I believe they could mitigate it by just changing the headlight design. A more substantial instrument cluster pod and chunkier headlight design would do.

The present one has a tablet like instrument cluster and a headlight that looks more like an LED torchlight.

Looks like Yamaha is going the Bajaj way - the FZ brand trying to do a Pulsar?? So many versions of the same underpinnings! It's not even a head turner!

Someone needs to tell me what this instrument cluster is doing in a supposed to be "retro" motorcycle!

Re: New Yamaha bike spied. EDIT: FZ-X launched at Rs. 1.17 lakh

I'm not an avid biker especially when it comes to imitating an international design to an Indian model. But this bike design looks different (in a good way) to my eyes and it reminds me of Vikrant V15 model from Bajaj. Hope that the sitting position in this bike is as comfortable as Honda Unicorn for a daily commuter.

Re: New Yamaha bike spied. EDIT: FZ-X launched at Rs. 1.17 lakh

Eh? What are all these reactions about?

This thing has an upright seating and comes with dual purpose tyres. That itself adds a lot of value in terms of usability. And the seat looks big and comfy.

It doesn't look bad at all. I actually like it. Yamaha could easily have made it look a lot better by making a thinner seat and dropping the ugly grabrails. But it looks like they've decided to make this one super practical.

Guess people don't have an eye for practical bikes these days.

Anyway, I made a photo edit. Fixing the looks should be cheap. Drop the grabrail and the ugly tyre hugger, cut some foam off the seat, maybe change cover colour to your liking and voila.

Wow! Didn't know Neo Retro is a synonym for Cheapo!

Honestly, I am surprised they didn't go for twin shocks at the rear. That would have completed the ch..ahm.. retro looks. They could have saved another precious few hundreds in the process.

The bike looks so hideous, how can such a large company design such a bad looking product.

If Navi went on a date with FZ (blindfolded), this would be the outcome.

Wow! You did something Yamaha could have done at factory. They should take a few lessons from you on designing their 2.0 version of this.

Yamaha India currently has no plans to launch the XSR in India.

They took this decision based on their 'surveys', and have developed the FZ-X specifically for Indian market.

Re: New Yamaha bike spied. EDIT: FZ-X launched at Rs. 1.17 lakh

To me the newly launched Bajaj 110x makes more sense than this.

I wish Yamaha had given it a 250cc heart and used the YAMAHA tank logo(nostalgic RX time) similar to what Honda did with CB350. And at least given a clear glass cover to make that headlight acceptable

So this bike already died, or ???

Would second this above, I don't quite understand all the hate and merciless rejections of the design earlier in the thread... I thought the Vikrant was a brilliantly fresh and creative while utterly practical design, and moreover someone here who had one said it pulled great in these hills even with pillion, despite the tame figures.

I also thought the Himalayan was a brilliant, fresh design (with retro cues) and while I'm not a big fan of the package personally, people worldwide are liking 'em a lot, again despite the rather tame (for the type of bike) engine.

Now I think this FZ-X is a pretty cool, fresh, different looking bike, at least in the official pics... Horizontal seats are pretty practical besides. Why they decided to make it a 12-odd hp commuter rather than something with (yeah) the FZ25 or MT15 engine (or even something on par with the original fz16 mill), and try to appeal to more enthusiastic types, I have no clue... except that it's too crowded a space there already, maybe?

I almost got excited when I saw it... but I'm quite sure that even at its best, that engine's not gonna quite do it for me...

That said, my Impulse is capped at 13.4bhp and has got me (just about) everywhere I wanted to go, and not without some fun along the way. Next to my other bikes it's a slug, but all depends on one's frame of reference, I suppose. Am finding the Impulse painfully sluggish after a couple years on RE500's and my ol' Kawi smoker... though strictly speaking, it's ample and smooth and doesn't mind screaming when need be in order to move along a bit better.

Whatever, I'm just kinda glad to see something that doesn't look like one more faired sportbike / naked "street fighter" - which apart from the (aging) Dukes are becoming harder and harder to tell one from another lately... BORING!!!

I guess I never did quite represent the majority viewpoint - but in a land with this many people, even a very small percentage of "free-thinkers" can amount to a fair number .

The majority out there are only comfortable with "incremental changes"... The old Bajaj Endura and Impulse got a lot of design-related hate and market rejection too, but you can hardly touch a used Impulse for under 50-60k now (for a bike that was 65-72k several years ago) - suddenly people decided it's a cool kind of bike, and I think we early adopters and the more open-minded have probably been vindicated.

Retro in this case is especially ok, 'cause when it comes to bikes "retro" is generally more practical, not a mere styling exercise/fad.

Let's see in this case.

-Eric
