Re: Benelli to launch Hungarian brand Keeway in India

Interesting proposition, however, here is my opinion.

- Low capacity cruisers create less interest
- The colors and design elements of the retro scooter look a bit tacky
- The maxi scooter looks good in pictures but 13 inch wheels are small
- Pricing/quality will be critical as Keeway is a brand not many have heard about
- I am keenly waiting for the maxi scooter segment to make entry (cautiously ignoring the maxi priced BMW product) and the competition to flare up
- More than this product, it will open up avenues for the consumer as the competition will be forced to get in to the market with their existing, international range of scooters

That V-twin cruiser is DoA. Quite literally. Atleast something little above 20hp would've made sense.

I like that retro scooter tho. Gives me Lambretta-ish vibes with that long engine compartment, the front apron and the squared front mudguard.

Re: Benelli to launch Hungarian brand Keeway in India

Lately lot of Chinese companies are launching many vehicles in India.

These Keeway two wheelers are no way connect to Hungarian lineage, one look at these scooters and they scream cheapness. I can't comment on the engines without testing. But from the looks of these vehicles, specially the retro sixties 300i it looks very cheap. The back of the vehicle is not aligned with the design, lots of panel gaps from the pics.

Hope these vehicles are properly tested.

Re: Benelli to launch Hungarian brand Keeway in India

This is awesome! While I do not have an Idea about Keeway, I hope they are able to build upon the recognition Benelli has built over the last decade.

I would probably trust a Benelli sister brand more than a maxi scooter from Mahindra/Kinetic/Hero/Bajaj. The Benelli 600i we have in the family might not be the most fun to ride bike, but has never left us stranded in any trips yet.

While I might not buy this, I do hope this is a pathway for the Japs to launch their maxi scooters. I do hope we are able to buy a Burgman 650 within the next decade.

Re: Benelli to launch Hungarian brand Keeway in India

Here's what I think of the Keeway brand and their line-up of two-wheelers (given the current info available)

Well looks like they're coming in guns blazing, at least with the scooters as according to their other website (Keeway Thailand) the Liquid cooled 278cc single cylinder powering the Sixties 300i and Vieste 300 is sourced from Piaggio and is not an inhouse unit (looks to be a detuned version of the engine used in Piaggio's European scooters like the Beverly 300 and the MP3 300, those scooters make about 25hp).

I'm a little skeptical about the K-Light 250, yeah sure 250cc V-Twin sounds new and exciting in a segment full of 300-350cc singles but Hyosung tried that with the Aquila and failed, only major manufacturer that I know of that makes a 250cc V-Twin is Yamaha with their V-Star 250, more power (say 21-25hp) would make the K-Light 250 more appealing.

Sixties 300i
  • Like the design in general (would give it a 7/10)
  • I can see the Retro/Industrial look they're going for with the curvy front and the boxy rear with vents but I would've preferred a more classic looking Vespa/Lambretta like look.
  • Classic car-esque grille on the front seems a bit too over the top for my taste, would've liked it clean or at least something more subtle.
  • Tail section looks a bit funky, would've liked to see a more conventional design or maybe I just need to see the scooter in person.
  • The name "Sixties 300i" is fine but not calling it the "Keeway Victoria 300" seems like a missed opportunity.
  • Dash looks a bit cheap with the overdone blue lighting, would've preferred white/red speedo lighting and a paler blue or white on the screen below.
  • Cops may get a bit suspicious of the exhaust on both the scooters as at first glance they look like they were ripped from a Motorcycle.
  • 10 litre fuel tank is the largest in the Retro scooter segment.

Vieste 300
  • I'd easily give this one a 8.5/10 in terms of design.
  • 2nd best looking maxi scooter, below the Aprilia SXR160 but ahead of the Aerox 155.
  • Would've like to see 14 inch rims yes but 13's do the job just fine IMHO.
  • 18.7hp Piaggio engine makes the Vieste and Sixties the most powerful scooters on sale today this side of the C400GT.
  • Dash looks way better than the Sixties 300i but just like the Sixties 300i I would've preferred to see a paler blue or a white screen, speedo and tachometer look fine.
  • 12 litre fuel tank makes it much more practical than the Aerox 155 and it's 5.5 litre fuel tank.

K-Light 250V
  • Baby Harley-Davidson looks are good or bad depending on who you ask but the design as a whole looks good, 8/10.
  • A bit skeptical given how poorly the previous 250cc V-Twin (Hyosung Aquila 250) performed in India against the likes of the UCE Royal Enfield's. The K-Light 250V will also have more competition than the Hyosung did as it has to deal with Yezdi, Jawa, Honda and Royal Enfield at the same time, the Keeway scooters have much less competition.
  • Don't like the fake radiator guard on an air cooled unit, if your bike has an air-cooled engine own it.
  • Dash looks good.

Correction, checked the ZigWheels walk around and the blue LCD screens look paler in the video than in the photos, if so then I have no complaints about the speedo colors.

Re: Benelli to launch Hungarian brand Keeway in India

Am I the only one who is getting the UM Global vibes from the brand Keeway here?
The UM Renegade was similar macho looking motorcycle with nothing complementing it's looks (i.e. poor engine, poor quality).
I think Benelli is just utilizing their existing capacity and trying their luck with this brand too.
I would stay away from this brand at least for an year or two.

Re: Benelli to launch Hungarian brand Keeway in India

The Keeway Sixties 300i retro-styled scooter reminds me of the good old Scooters India's Vijay Super. It has a striking resemblance!
Have some very good memories with that scooter from 1977 till around 2006, when we decided to sell it off.

If priced right, I might be interested in getting this scooter, just for the looks!

Re: Benelli to launch Hungarian brand Keeway in India

I am quite excited about the little Vtwin, even if it is a little underpowered on paper. If it is priced in the ballpark of the Enfield duo then it would be an interesting option; India has always lacked any affordable/ entry level multi cylinder options and any options are better than none.
What I don’t like is all the Hungarian drama and branding, it is quite clear that these are Chinese designed and engineered.
Also the “ Hungarian Supremacy “ tag line... what were they thinking? Sounds like a 1940’s facist slogan and makes me cringe.
