The 2023 Yamaha FZ15 has been launched in Brazil. It is expected to arrive at our shores as the FZ V4.0.

The latest iteration of the Yamaha FZ gets a redesigned headlamp unit up front, an updated LCD instrument console with gear position indicator and a reworked tail lamp.

The overall dimensions of the FZ haven’t changed much except for the ground clearance, which has gone up by 5 mm. The fuel tank capacity has gone down by 1.1 litres.

The Brazil-spec motorcycle is powered by a 149cc, single-cylinder engine which now produces 12.2 BHP @ 7,500 rpm and 12.4 Nm @ 6,000 rpm. It’s worth noting that the engine output of the Indian-spec bike might vary as the Brazilian version is tuned to run on ethanol.

Good lord!!! What have they done? The 1st gen bike was such a looker. With every subsequent iteration they have gone from bad to worse. Such an eyesore this

No words. The FZ had a character, despite being only 150CC it always seemed capable of more. All the iterations since the 2.0 are watered down versions of what was once a great motorcycle. Yamaha has milked it enough, I hope they at least move on from this and bring a fresh design from the ground up.

Re: 2023 Yamaha FZ15 unveiled; to replace FZ V3.0 in India

As someone who learnt to ride in the city on a Gen 1 FZ-S/FZ16 I cannot physically look at this new bike. The old bike was a gem, both in terms of handling and design. The 2.0 was a watered down version that turned the bike into just another 150cc commuter but this new bike is a crime against the FZ name.

The gen 1 FZ-S I learnt to ride in the city on was a 2014 model and I believe was one of the last batches of the Gen 1 FZ/FZ16 to be delivered before the 2.0 models rolled in. I'm glad that my uncle (who still owns the bike) pulled the trigger on the Gen 1 model instead of waiting for the 2.0 version.

Am I the only one or does anyone else feel the V4.0 resemble somewhat close to Xtreme 160 R?

The current one atleast looks little better compared to the current counterparts and abominations , which Yamaha has been able to sell. However a 160 odd Cube with 4 Valve setup would be a nice touch. The 153 cc unit which had been updated for many years is more optimised towards frugal usage of fuel than some light and nimble (speedy) performance plus decent efficiency combination .
