Re: Ather rider fined for having no PUC certificate

Unless you start punishing the officials, who misuse their power, nothing is going to change in this country.

No matter who's in power, India still ranks in the top 10 of the most corrupt nations.

The solution is very simple, but the central government has no intent to fix anything. The center should pass a law, which ensures corrupt and misusers must be thrown out of the system. I agree, states are independent and have their own power, but we cannot run like this anymore.

Re: Ather rider fined for having no PUC certificate

They have already come up with the explanation. This is a case of error in entering the code in the system. It seems there various codes for each violation ( guess similar to the IPC 324 - Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means)

The same was the issue with the challan for not having enough fuel.

IMO, The system should have a more foolproof method

Rightly so, but then the first to go out of business would be NGT

Re: Ather rider fined for having no PUC certificate

So.. er, what exact proof do we have that the Ather owner was going to be charged for a higher fine, and then police settled for a lower amount?

I mean, consecutive posts are almost convinced on this idea, but do we have a reason except for, "it sorta happened to me, or someone I know".

A lot of things could've happened. It could actually be a case where the Ather owner proudly insisted that he has all documents, and probably going on an ego trip, the policeman showed his power by issuing an irrelevant challan, for example.

Re: Ather rider fined for having no PUC certificate

What I think happened in this case.
That Ather rider got stopped on the road by police for some offence. Let's say not wearing helmet or something along the lines of that. The person would've requested the policeman to reduce the fine to a lower amount. Which the policeman did by changing the offence to something else, in this case to a lack of PUCC.

Now this is just a speculation from my part. I've seen it happen on the road a million times and I've also done the same. When they catch you for something, they won't just let you go without making you pay something.

I can't say what actually transpired in the case of Ather owner, however, yesterday my friend got auto-notification from government portal for PUC renewal. Instead of completing PUC test, he asked my suggestion. Why ??

Because his car is EV.

He had heard about this Ather case and worried that police may unnecessary create hassle. Also, sometime back there was a program on radio, where they were sharing about auto-challan for PUC violation in NCR; using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and matching with VAHAN database.
