May 2023: Indian Motorcycle & Scooter Sales Figures & Analysis

NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only bikes that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Looks like Honda is selling only Activa, Shine and CB350. For everything else like Dio, Unicorn etc the number is 0.

Thank you

Aditya

Sir for your arduous efforts
I may be 50% wrong & perhaps too early to deduce: Honda (HMSI) is losing their market position despite their decades of technical competency. Just like Royal Enfield (RE) is seeing a tremendous growth, HMSI is seeing its sunshine days waning.

It could be BS6.2 effect or HMSI is prioritizing dispatch of other vehicles.
Zero numbers doesn't mean no dispatches, it could be just zero reporting to SIAM just as numbers for TVS Ronin, Yamaha Aerox have been never reported so far.

I would dare say technical competency has gone away long back, HMSI is just sitting on past laurels.

Yes sir, very true; they're sitting on their past glory OR perhaps something cooking up in secrecy for AI based EV (or alternative energies) vehicles?

Besides, there's another fact that, all these big automobile companies cannot make a paradigm shift adopting to newer technologies like small companies. And even if they do, it's difficult to merge the old & new.

Only time will tell

Interesting to see Sales in "EV" more than "<100CC". Probably, it is one of the event due to FAME changes.

Lets see whether EV holds ground in the coming months.

Re: May 2023: Indian Motorcycle & Scooter Sales Figures & Analysis

Not surprised by the show TVS is putting up. Seeing a lot of iQubes here in my place everyday. Also the ever lovable XL moped putting strong month-on-month numbers makes me feel happy as a repeat [and a long-term] customer of TVS. My uncle had a 2-Stroke XL super for 20 years, and its paint quality at the end of its tenure with us was still worth talking about. He replaced it with a Jupiter 5 years ago. Many such instances might have contributed to its relevance in today's market, in its 4S avatar. Though I have upgraded from a TVS Sport to Avenger, we have a total of 7 TVS 2Wheelers in our family circle. All of them serving us without a fuss, service experience being very pleasant and product quality itself being above par. I will not mind replacing my Avenger which started showing its age after just 4 years [since 2021], with whichever cruiser [Zeppelin, which was rumored] TVS comes up with, provided its seat height is as low as the Avenger, Lol.
