Honda unveils MotoCompacto: A mini suitcase-style e-scooter which fits in your car

Honda has unveiled its new compact electric scooter called MotoCompacto. The new mini e-scooter comes with a suitcase-style design for last-mile mobility. Tipping the scale at 19 kg, the Motocompacto can easily be folded up to fit in the boot of your car.

The electric scooter when required, opens up to offer a seat, handlebar, foot pegs, side-stand and even lighting at the front and rear. Powering the Honda Motocompacto is a 6.8Ah battery pack paired with a 490-watt motor, producing 16 Nm and a top speed of 24 km/h. The battery pack can be charged to full in 3.5 hours via a 15-amp outlet and offers 19 km of range.

The new mini electric scooter draws inspiration from the brand's original Honda Motocompo - a 49cc two-stroke engined scooter designed to fit in the boot of the 1981 City hatchback.

The modern-day Motocompacto electric scooter was developed by Honda engineers in the USA. The electric scooter was granted 32 patents during its development. The new Honda Motocompacto is priced at US$ 995.

The Motocompo was a truly revolutionary design and practical too. I wish Honda could get this to India - I will definitely buy it. At approx 80,000 bucks it's not exactly cheap - but I am sure it will find a lot of takers.

Looks great to use in the crowded western city centers while the car is parked somewhere comfortably and cheaply. Great to see Honda innovating with small commuters again.

Looks good for western setup. In India, it will really depend on the area you plan to use it in. Will this be driven on road? And if so that itself will be quite a challenge given our road conditions and surfaces in general. Perhaps this can be driven on pavements but again the way how our pavements are made and maintained, usability of this vehicle remains questionable.

This concept has been around in different forms for a long time. Has never been successful. I don't thing this will have many takers too.

This is such a cool thing! It is cheaper than an iPhone and that too with 19kms of range at just 19kgs.

Love how cute and futuristic this looks, would get it if it launches here.

Compared to this Xioami mi4 pro and similar type scooters are half the price, faster and better range. It's very easy to carry even in Swift type of cars.

I second you on this.

pros : compact, handy. Can be carried like a luggage.
cons : Tiny range, long charging time. Small wheels. Price(should be lesser than 50K)

For Indian conditions they should give bigger wheels(or detachable bigger..).
This can be used in railway stations, airports, inside campuses, big hospitals, big residential complexes.

Imagine, everyone on the road using these portable scooters.

I don't find this as a suitable product for our Indian roads, but this cute machine should work well in some parts of this world.

But still, I would like to have this one. I hope the service and warranty should be sufficient to give it thousands of miles.

The wheels need a smooth surface to roll on. Maybe some high end resorts, hotels can offer this to the guests or their kids for fun.
Even riding these in our crowded malls would be a big challenge.

Old wine in electric bottle?

They added a few letters to the old name!

Mazda's suitcase car never saw light of the day despite being showcased decades ago. Hopefully these tiny suitcase vehicles gain popularity in India having high traffic density

In India, this just won't cut it. Maybe a handful of folks can have some fun with it in certain spots or around apartment buildings, but taking it out on Indian roads? No way. And a 19-kilometer range? That's just not gonna fly here. But gotta admit, the idea is pretty cool.

This was something Honda did long back with the first gen City. Mainly for crowded streets of Tokyo. Conceptually looks promising. So was the segway.
