This is what I got from the previous owner.

I still haven't installed the it seat as I couldn't carry it home from Hyderabad and left it along with a bunch of other accessories at a friend's place.

I think that really is the entire assembly! Could you ask the guy where he got all the 3 spacers from?

He said he involved KTM India in the process and finally got the parts from the dealership. I attached the part numbers in my previous post.

Re: 2024 KTM Duke 390 Review

I've clocked 15,000 km on the odometer now. I got a preventive service done just after 2,000 kilometers from the previous one.

I had the engine oil changed, clutch cable replaced, and air and oil filters replaced at a KTM authorized service center in my town. The service person complimented the bike's condition and mentioned it didn't really need another service so soon. I told him it was for my peace of mind.

The bill came to INR 3,084.

Re: 2024 KTM Duke 390 Review

Question on the comfort and ergonomics of the Duke 390.

I have read and watched multiple reviews which say explicitly or hint that the 390 Duke is not suited for taller people.

Can owners of the gen 3 Duke 390 comment on this mentioning their height in the post? This would be very helpful.

I am interested in the Duke but I seriously doubt I would be able to get a long enough test ride that would allow experience the Duke's rider comfor or the lack of it.

I am 175cm tall, 76cm inseam, 58cm arm length. My opinion is purely based on the Indian spec 800mm seat. I've heard people saying the 820mm seat is much better for taller people.

I'd say it depends on what you are looking for. The bars are lower than gen 1, so its less dirt bikey in that aspect and they are low enough that you need to tuck if you are standing up. The pegs are too rear set to stand up like a dirt bike but you can hug the side panels if you dig in hard enough. There is not much fatigue from the rear sets being too high. The rubber pegs are reasonably grippy.

The bars are too high for a sportsbike. There is a nice recess in the tank between the fuel cap and the side shroud where your outer elbow could be resting while turning in case of a sportsbike but if you try that you will discover that the bars are high and you will have a ridiculous amount of upper bend from your elbow. The bars are very close even if you sit at the back of the seat. You put your head down near your mirrors for lean and you will discover that your arms going over the bars and you cannot counter steer if you go further forward. That is why literally every reviewer mentioned they sat on the pillion seat for tucking. The dash acts as a nice windscreen at full tuck when sitting on the pillion seat and cuts down on wind noise considerably. You are also very likely to bang your chin bar on the dash until you figure it out for your build.

If you sit at the back of the seat or on the pillion seat you will find that the single cylinder engine is too narrow and it is difficult to hug the tank. Sitting balls on the edge of the tank, you get impressive contact with the tank shrouds, from the end of the seat its only your knees. This is not as problematic as the handlebar ergos but it still feels less nice compared to a RS457. The heel plates are some flexible plastic compared to the proper metal ones in the first gen. They also have a tendency to ruin suede shoes and possibly other shoes with grain patterns. The bike does not feel hot at all except at the ball of the right foot under specific conditions. This happens when riding past 6k for prolonged periods of time (highway touring) probably because that's where the exhaust is. Could ruin some shoes.

The bike is very comfortable in traffic and commuting and riding over long distances if you don't mind the vibes.

You can rent one in Bangalore. That's what I did. Some showrooms also give you a long test ride for real prospective customers if you book an appointment.

180 cm (a shade under 6 feet, in my socks). 33.5 inch inseam. The Dukes (both my 200 and 390) I took to like a duck to water. More comfortable and stress free and faster long day tourers than my Bullet 500s. Numerous 1000 plus days on the 390. And my fastest Poona Goa on my 200. I would not change a thing on this bike. Not the saddle. Not the handlebar. Not the pegs and levers. That's your 3 critical rider triangle touchpoints.

Cheers, Doc

Could you recommend bike hiring companies in Bangalore?

I haven't heard it read any complaints on space on the older Dukes. Just the latest one. Maybe KTM thought it's better to have the bike suit shorter riders to increase sales. Who knows...

For info, I'm 5'10" amd currently ride a 200 NS that fits me very nicely. I'm looking to upgrade but I need some space to be able to change riding position to relieve pressure that comes from being seated in the same position for extended periods.

I'm sorry I missed the "Gen 3" in your original post. I thought you were asking about the Dukes in general, bad rep that they unfairly have.

The Gen 3 close up on the workshop floor does look a bit shorter. Even when you mount it. Like you're sitting "in" it.

Me on mine, super neutral, relaxed.

I would not say that for sure. KTM has done some radical things like mounting the dash on the handlebars to really shorten the length of the bike. The svart 401 has the same dash mounted in the more traditional place.

Good news is that KTM's seat comfort does not change over time. If you find it comfortable like me, it will still remain so even after 6h in the saddle. If you find it uncomfortable it will be that way from the first minute so you won't complain after 6h. Two, the bike runs out petrol faster than you want to stretch your legs anyway. Jokes aside, I find there is one fist length of space to move back and forth. Not ideal but it is manageable.

I'm 5'10" too (178 cm) and I am running a 800 mm but foamier seat. I wouldn't call it the most comfortable seat but it's comfortable enough for me to do 200-300 km rides. But if you opt for the 820mm seat, there's more room to move forward and background to adjust your seating position.

Re: 2024 KTM Duke 390 Review

I'm sensing a change in the top-end after the latest service at 14830 km.

When climbing up the rev band, the engine used to smooth out really well after the 5k RPM mark. But now after the service, it doesn't feel as smooth. It still pulls hard and I don't notice any drop in power but that smooth feeling isn't there anymore. The engine kinda feels tight like how it does in the lower rev band.

I thought it would go away after some riding but here I am after having done 200 kilometres since the service.

I'm very new to the KTM/Bajaj experience. Any reason why this would happen? I'm guessing the air filter might not have been seated right. I'll go pay the service centre a visit tomorrow.

Err- how’d you manage to cover nearly 15,000 km on the new 390 in such a short duration? How long have you owned it?

I bought it pre-owned last week with 13.5k on the odo. The previous owner had it for six months and used it for touring and weekend rides.

And I ran it 1500 km in a week.
