Re: Thimma, my new Himalayan 450 comes home. First Royal Enfield / ADV in my garage

Congratulations Adi! A very well written comprehensive ownership review.

And its good to see how well you take care of the bikes even now. I remember during our riding days, your Ninja was the cleanest in any lineup.

Wish you many miles of safe and blissful riding!

Re: Thimma, my new Himalayan 450 comes home. First Royal Enfield / ADV in my garage

As planned, I reached the ASC today at 0845 hrs and there were 15 bikes already in the queue.

The manager opened the job card shortly after I reached and I explained that I was facing two issues:

1. Handlebar alignment was towards the left and had to be centered. I was facing pain in my right arm after riding with this issue for 750 kms.

2. Phone connectivity to the console

There was another Kaza Brown 450 that had come in and I overheard that owner say the same thing to the service personnel who were opening the job cards. His handlebar was aligned more to the right and he was facing left arm pain.

The service technician reset the console on my bike and his phone and the service manager's phone connected to the console. Both Andriod phones. Mine still tries to connect but fails. I uninstalled the RE app, reinstalled it, and restarted the phone but still no joy. Checked all settings but nothing worked. The other gentleman who was there for his handlebar alignment issue helped me with the settings but it still did not work.

My phone is the OnePlus Nord CE 5G, running Andriod 13. The technician and the service manager both had Andriod 14 and one of them had the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G.

The Himalayan 450 user manual states the following:

Thimma, my new Himalayan 450 comes home. First Royal Enfield / ADV in my garage-re-himalayan-450_phone-connectivity.png

Smartphones compatible version to use RE Mobile app:

Android: Our app's minimum supported version will be two versions behind the current Android OS.

iOS: The minimum supported iOS version will be one version behind the current iOS release.

That said, the latest version is Android 14 and phones running this are seamlessly connecting with the console. Mine is one version behind and unable to connect. I think this may be the issue. All settings have been enabled on the RE app and the phone.

Not sure if there is an Andriod version update for my phone but makes no sense to me to buy a new phone just to connect it to the console. For now, I have installed the phone mount that I had on the bonnie. I may need maps only in unfamiliar territory, so it's not a show-stopper for now at least.

Anyway, the handlebar alignment has been corrected and it felt a tad better on my ride back home. I will know better tomorrow morning when I head out for a longer ride.

The service technician said this was not a manufacturing issue but more to do with how the bikes are handled. The bikes are yanked and pushed while holding the handlebar when on the stand and this causes slight misalignment.

Not aware of the wait time for the SM650 but please don't cancel your booking as a new booking will be treated as a fresh requirement and will further increase the wait time.
Yes, that is true. I will retain my current booking; hopefully my bike would be delivered this month.

Re: Thimma, my new Himalayan 450 comes home. First Royal Enfield / ADV in my garage

My wife & I headed out for a ride today morning towards Bellur Cross.

We initially stopped at Dhruvathare but decided to head to Hotel Mayura a little further for breakfast.

The handlebar realignment has made a significant difference as it has reduced my arm pain to a large extent but the pain persists while I am riding. I am positive it is due to the buzz from the handlebar, specifically from the right handle grip from 5000 RPM onwards. I am in the second stage of the engine run-in and hence not exceeding 6000 RPM, so can't say if this buzz disappears with higher RPMs. Will get Grip Puppies installed soon as I've heard it reduces vibrations to quite an extent.

My wife also complained of right knee pain from the buzz in the rear right footpeg. I guess a pair of riding boots will solve this issue.

However, as soon as we're off the bike, the pain is gone.

Some pics from today's ride:

Covered around 300 odd kms today and the odo stands at:

Surprisingly, Thimma was getting all the attention from SBK riders and 300-400 cc motorcycle riders. I got a lot of questions in terms of ride quality, flaws, etc. and also some appreciation for the fit and finish, paint quality and the creamy shade of brown. Compared to this, the bonnie was ignored and most often confused with the RE Interceptor

Had the same experience

This raises questions like no other bike I had ridden, except for may be the during the Ather review when electric scooter and sound was a novelty.

However, I guess this will change soon as the motorcycle has already started becoming common. Yesterday I rode to Belur and back and saw 3-4 Himalayans during this short ride itself.

Is the buzz on the foot pegs a lot? And, are you planning to get a top box and panniers? To me, the Top Box Rack in that steel finish, by itself, looks out of place

Yes, the buzz is very evident, especially from 5000 RPM onwards. I am hoping this will reduce as the bike completes the second phase of the run-in but will install grip puppies in any case.

On another note, It appears there is a firmware update for the console but you need to connect the RE app to the console to update it. I am facing connectivity issues so will have to get this done via someone else's phone.

Is anyone facing an issue with the clock? Like I highlighted earlier, in 24-hour format, even after setting the time correctly, the clock resets the time from 13:00 to 01:00. If in 12-hour setting, PM becomes AM. This happens every time the key is turned OFF and ON. Factory resetting the console makes no difference. I also noticed that only PM becomes AM, not vice versa.

This is so weird...!!!

I'm not facing an issue with the clock. Man, I love the fact all information is in front of me at a glance, including temperature. Another thing I like is how quickly the screen adapts to bright light/low light/darkness

Re: Thimma, my new Himalayan 450 comes home. First Royal Enfield / ADV in my garage

Congrats! Pleasantly surprised to see that Mithun is still in place but in a different location! My first bike as a teenager was bought from him and he was super helpful back then as well. Currently, I ended up booking it in the older branch where he used to work and that is a mishap now. I do not want to cancel the booking either to protect myself from the price and the wait!

Thanks for reporting the pillion review as well, one of the only main reasons why I'm planning to buy this bike, as my current pike + pillion is a no no. Still concerned with the engine more than anything in the long run since there are so many firsts on this bike for RE.

The console should be treated as a great tft console, all the other bells and whistles do not work seamlessly as they promise. I never managed to connect my phone on the test ride bike as well. Also, the amount of battery + over worked phones heat due to the app which is used to project is ridiculous and will kill the phone rather sooner than later. Would hook a spare phone and use it happily rather than the tft. But tft should work as they have promised and should optimize the app as well tripper is on the market since quite some time and still is plagued with issues.

Re: Thimma, my new Himalayan 450 comes home. First Royal Enfield / ADV in my garage

Got to know there are a couple of H450 owners just half a km from my home.

Met up with them and one of them was helpful enough to connect his phone to my bike's console and update the firmware. Takes 5-10 minutes for the entire process to complete.

Here are a couple of things to note when you want to update the firmware:

1. The first and most important thing to do is toggle the joystick to the right and note down the WiFi code. This will disappear once the firmware update is complete and will NOT show post the update. So write it down somewhere. The console will still beam the wifi signal to connect but you will need to enter the code manually. It does not show the code for you to scan via the RE app.

2. After the firmware update, the Check Engine Light (CEL) stays on even after the engine is turned on. To resolve this, you need to remove both seats, remove the fuses and put them back. Apparently, the grease that is applied on the fuse box to prevent corrosion does not allow for a proper connection. Weird issue, if you ask me. This was not an issue before the update. But once you remove and put the fuses back, the CEL goes off when the engine is turned on. Please ensure the key is in OFF position when you remove and reinstall the fuses.

With the firmware update, the clock issue that I was facing has also resolved. It is now correctly showing the time in 24-hour format and does not change to 12-hour/AM format when the key is turned off and on. PHEW...!!!

Finally, I figured out why my phone was not connecting.

I have the OnePlus Nord CE 5G phone and the WLAN specs (link) are:

Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct

At the ASC, the mechanic was able to connect his OnePlus Nord CE2 5G to my bike's console. This phone model was launched a year after my phone model.

The WLAN spec (link) for the OnePlus Nord CE2 5G is:

Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct

The last digit (6) is missing on my phone and that seems to be the issue. I am not upgrading to a newer phone anytime soon though. I have a phone mount on the handlebar for those unfamiliar territories and when I do change the phone a couple of years later, I will ensure to check the WLAN specs before I buy.

Hope this helps others who may be facing the same issue and also when they want to update the firmware on the console.

That 6 stands for wifi 6, which is very new technology and new phones only might have those.

Pic below says RE tripper dash supports only wifi 5. Your phone technically is compatible

One of a fellow rider has wifi 6 and it connects for him. I have 6e and it doesn't connect. Older version 5 also doesn't connect.
I am in touch with RE app development team and have shared these inputs.

I got a call from the RE support team and they have assured that they are working with a team from Google to resolve this at the earliest. Though they haven't provided an ETA on this.

Thanks- do you have a some notes from the change log? Wanted to know what is changing/ improving in the update. I usually avoid updates if the changes are minimal and the feature is working well on the current version.

For me, the connectivity and maps work well so maybe I could avoid the updates.
