Re: Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z launched at Rs 1.85 lakh

Has the 400 reached showrooms yet? I was walking past a Bajaj showroom last night, saw some really cool looking bike, definitely a NS, not sure if it was the 400 though. If that is what the bike looks like, then wow! And at this price, it's going to be hard to beat.

Re: Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z launched at Rs 1.85 lakh

I am in love with this bike. My first bike was a Pulsar 150 DTSI, used to be my daily ride for college during graduation. The engine was reliable but build quality not that great. Than upgraded to R15 V2 in 2012, and the difference in built quality and over all bike feel was night and day. Yamaha has really spoiled me with reilabilty, refinement and build quality, but this bike is hard to ignore. Dominar 400 owners, how reliable your bike has turned out to be, how happy are you? The NS400 has the same engine, your feedback is important for many people like me

This last photo sums up the stealth aero nakedness of ... a naked.

Which should never be butchered by slapping on floppy windsail visors in front.

I hope now with the launch of this bike, there will be cheaper alternatives to non-critical running parts for our Duke 390s.

I have my beady eyes set on the indicators for now.

Don't get your hopes up on those indicators They look pretty much the same as Domi's and they are only slightly cheaper than Duke's.

I got the same thought a microsecond after making that post.

Domi and Husky have the same looking flat ones.

Re: Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z launched at Rs 1.85 lakh

Ride reviews are out. Distilling what I learnt from them in a few bullets:

1. Suspension is well-sorted. It's on the firmer side without being harsh- takes care of large impacts well while remaining flat on the highway, which is good news for its touring abilities.
2. Engine is tractable and accelerates harder than the one on the Dominar. 2 reasons for this- 1) lower weight (about 19kg) and 2) extra tooth on the rear sprocket. Some vibrations persist under 5k RPM (according to Varun Painter from PD) but smoothens out towards the top. Noticeable buzz throughout without it being a deal-breaker. Should be manageable, it is a single after all.
3. Seats are on the firmer side a la KTMs. Should be good for touring once you get used to it.
4. Lights are strong and throw a decent beam.
5. Design, while being subjective, was in general noted to be an incremental update over the NS200 (guess we all knew that anyway). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
6. Clutch is light and smooth but gearbox was noted to have some refinement issues. Could be because these are new bikes/pre-production models. Time will tell if this persists and becomes an issue.
7. Brakes come with axial callipers and organic pads at the front, which is ok for everyday use but not for spirited riding. Might have to change the setup a bit if you're riding it in anger.
8. Tyres are ok for the most part ie everyday commutes. Again, for spirited track riding you may need grippier rubber (this is a fairly obvious point)
9. Cornering clearance and ground clearance are both a bit on the lower side. Scrapes may occur in both cases, especially with pillion for ground clearance. Might have to bump up the preload if travelling 2-up.
10. Yet to see reviews of the console and bluetooth connectivity- whether it's smooth and intuitive.
11. Acceleration figures- about 2.9s to 60 and 6.9s to 100. Top speed some noted 170+, but Bajaj speedos come with a fairly wide margin of error, so account for that. Probably closer to 158-160 if measured by vbox.
12. Value is unbeatable. You get a lot of bike for the money was the general consensus.

Re: Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z launched at Rs 1.85 lakh

A comparo between 4 bikes in the ~400cc class. Notable omissions- RTR310, which they acknowledge and bring into the comparo at times, and the Svartpilen 401, which is also from the Bajaj stable.

Takeaways:
1. Duke 390 is far and away the best of the lot, and matches the NS400z pound-for-pound in the value for money quotient despite being the most expensive. Testament to its incredible abilities.
2. Pulsar NS400Z punches above its weight in the battle with the Speed 400. The Triumph comes out on top in terms of overall quality, engine refinement and performance, while the Pulsar matches or outclasses it on most other fronts.
3. Dominar is only there for attendance purposes.

The Motorinc boys make their opinions known as well- with the engine, throttle response and console UI/UX drawing particularly large amounts of flak, while praising the value and ride & handling.

Re: Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z launched at Rs 1.85 lakh

Why no Himalayan 451 in the comparo? Maybe edging out the Dominar at the very least? All these bikes make 40 horses or above, so the Himalayan does fit and should have been featured.

Cheers, Doc

The title says which bajaj to buy?
I just see they miss the 401 husqi in this comparo given that it is also from bajaj's allies.

Re: Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z launched at Rs 1.85 lakh

Making up my mind to exchange/ sell my trusted 2016 RE Thunderbird 350 and get this new boy in town.

Made a few dealer inquiries, principal among which was Okhla Indl Ph II, Delhi Bajaj dealer. They stated that the on-road for the NS400 will work out at INR 2,26,400/- and test rides will be available from next week around 15th.

Few pointers tipping the scales on why I am deciding to let go of the RE TB350 which had been my trusted steed since 2016 and clocked nearly a lac kms on the odo (3 NorthEast trip of Delhi-Assam, Ladakh, Spiti, remote border areas of UK and HP, Nepal, Arunachal, etc):

1. Age is catching up. It rumbles on at low speeds of 50-60kmph but vibrates and doesn't seem as stable upwards of 70kmph.
2. Related to point 1, braking is compromised at speeds above 60kmph esp. with a pillion (my better half) on board where it is skidding a lot on quick braking situations even when the hand and foot brakes are applied simultaneously and judiciously. My years of riding experience on this TB comes in useful while handling and getting the bike and pillion safe out of such situations.
3. Air dispersing from the tyres when ridden with pillion and luggage even though tyres are fairly new, making it unfeasible for long range or night time riding.

What I am going to miss about the TB350:
1. Long range fuel coverage of 650kms+ approx with a massive 18L tank.
2. Superb mileage of 40kmpl+ on highways.
3. Planted nature and superior ride comfort at reasonable speeds.

I have those exact same old camo pattern army pants. Very tough and rugged and that material is just something else.
