re: Aprilia Tuono 457 launched at 3.95L

Good to see Aprilia getting a bit serious about their bikes in India. They should rationalize there porfolio and drop the 660 family, they don't sell anyway for the ridiculous pricing. Maybe just keep one of them for the eyeballs.

Work on the Tuareg 457 next and see the footfall increase and volume game as well, bikes are anyway well priced (hoping the Tuono will be lesser priced then RS). Sell the top of line RSV4 along with it.

Bring back 660 when they can make it in India and price it well, with these steps Aprilia can definitely capture a bit of market pie. John already is a good ambassdor for their brand in India.

Did not really like the front design, but it is growing on me slowly as the launch nears. Though my back and wrist will like the tuono, when I go for a test ride I am sure my heart will want the rs457.

re: Aprilia Tuono 457 launched at 3.95L

Reliability, Spares availability and service cost. Many potential customers may put up with the cost and minimal dealer points if the the first three are covered well by Aprilia. Italian auto companies in general are not known for the same. But yes, they are high on the desirability quotient which other brands don't have. I have seen exactly one RS457 in my city and it looks good I must say. I have seen more Triumph/Honda/BMW/ducati/superbikes than that. I'm yet to see an Aprilia superbike on road, here atleast. Scooters, yes.

Most probably because there are no Aprilia RS457 dealers in EKM. The closest one is in TCR.

This must be the first time the Tuono's mule is spotted in India.
The handlebar position seems a little too far from the rider. It looks like the RS triple T with risers. Overall rider posture looks comfortable but it is definitely not as cozy as the Duke or MT15. Should make a good tourer with a windscreen and knuckle guards

Aprilia Tuono 457 Design patent filed in India

Aprilia has filed a design patent for the upcoming Tuono 457 in India. The bike is expected to be launched in the coming weeks.

Aprilia Tuono 457 launched at 3.95L-aprilia_tuono_457_design_patent_india_a97ee903cd.jpg

The Tuono 457 is a naked version of the fully-faired RS 457. It has a sporty streetfighter design with an LED headlamp up front, an exposed frame and a stepped seat.

The Tuono 457 is equipped with a pre-load adjustable USD fork at the front and an adjustable mono-shock at the rear. Braking is handled by disc brakes at both ends, supported by ABS.

The Tuono 457 is powered by the same 457cc parallel-twin engine as the RS 457. It puts out 47 BHP and 43.5 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper clutch.

If they build Tuareg 457, will it use the same platform as RS? Based on the spy shots, it doesn’t seem like.

If they use a different platform, will they still be able to price it similar to RS?

I am completely smitten by this, I have been trying to decide between the interceptor, bear, R3 and Svatpilen 301 for the last couple of months. I am looking for a weekend bike and a high speed tourer that offers decent comrot. The RS 457's stance was a little too committed for my purpose , and the bear was a bit too uncomfortable from what I read and a little too tall also.

Thats when I heard of the tueno and it has my heart. The twin cylinder that I loved soo much, a decent stance from what i am seeing online, and a lil bit understated as compared to the RS. The only fly in the ointment is the unproven reliability and the erstwhile horror stories of the aprilia service centres (From the scooter owners). But, I guess i will bite the bullet and go for this one.

One question to the experts on the forum, since this doesn't come with a visor of any sorts, would it not be possible to fix one? I don't see any provisions(usually even nakeds have small winscreens that can be replaced with larger ones)

Since this is an international model, you'll get aftermarket windscreens from MRA or Puig once it gets popular. But they are going to be expensive to buy. If you are fitting a windscreen on a naked, it should be something that is R&Ded properly because more often than not, it disrupts the clean airflow and introduces more turbulence.

Thank you, had not thought about that. But, do you see any provisions for the windscreen ? How would they be fitted? i am guessing nobody would do any drilling.

On a side note, i had come across this video of a touring spec tueno 457, with every accessory you can think of:
Since the company hasnt put a visor even on this, do you think Aprilia doesnt intend this one to have visor?

The well established brands like MRA & Puig come with their own mounting hardware that makes use of convenient mounting points on different bikes if they already don't come with mounting holes from factory. Their universal windscreens for nakeds are like a floating design with two long stalks mounting on to the handle bar. Like this one for example

Nakeds mostly have a small windscreen for aesthetic purposes. A large windscreen might cause more harm than good but this depends on the application.

I think your requirement asks for a Sports Tourer more than a Naked. This is just a rough rule of thumb, but most bikes comply to this: Nakeds are mostly meant for cities and don't offer nearly the same handling- particularly at high speeds- as their faired counterparts.

Looking at the images of the RS and Tuono 457s side-by-side, the foot peg position and seat inclination seem largely the same; only the handle bar seems a bit raised on the Tuono- and that too only with the aluminium risers, found on some pictures. I imagine the stance won't be too different on the Tuono from an RS with raised handlebars.

Considering the use-case, I think the RS with raised handlebars- and perhaps even a raised (more convex) windscreen on the RS, should you find the wind deflection to be inadequate for the upright posture while touring- would be a better mod for you. I don't know if there are after-market options for this, but with a different shaped bracket, longer/shorter connecting rod, and longer brake lines if need be, the foot peg positions can be altered as well.

The reason for going for the RS is simply better aerodynamics and handling. A windscreen- at its best- only complements a fairing and help the bike pierce through air better. Without the fairing, the windscreen would merely deflect the air that'd be hitting against your chest to (ideally) just over the helmet. This only adds frontal area, increasing drag; and probably even lift, depending on how much down-force the fairing would add on the bike to keep it stable.

You can see how inclined the windscreen is on the RS, due to fairing. The headlamps are basically just above the tip of the front fender, which is not the case on the Tuono. So, similar inclination can't be achieved on the Tuono, without creating gaps between the headlamps and the windscreen, causing buffeting. I've tried to annotate this in the images below, which are taken from here (Aprilia RS 457 Track Review) and Aprilia's website.

You can also see how the rider's triangle is basically the same, except for the raised handlebars on the Tuono.

re: Aprilia Tuono 457 launched at 3.95L

Is the launch today or tomorrow?

I went to the Aprillia website and when I entered my details, it said the dealer would reach out for a test ride. It would be unlikely that test rides would start without a price unveil so not sure what is going on there.

Edit : Spoke too soon. An event is live on the Youtube channel now -

re: Aprilia Tuono 457 launched at 3.95L

The cat is out of the bag and it is gorgeous. Priced at 3.95L ex-showroom, pre-bookings at 10k, as per latest Instagram post. Seems like introductory pricing which will creep up soon. In my opinion, this is worth it and better mechanically than the popular Sweetheart 650s, unless one specifically wants retro.

Time to plan finances and convince myself not to make stupid decisions

Decent pricing IMO, but need to see how long this price will be in effect. Also, did KTM foresee this price and cut down the price of the 390 Duke to make their product more relevant?

Nevertheless, the Tuono should sell well for its price.
