Re: The Gearless Scooter Thread

Thank you for all the suggestions guys.

But, I am still confused which one to buy Activa or Wego (My heart says Wego and mind say go with Activa)

This is my logic:
Activa rules the scooter kingdom, with proven track record of 10 years, where as Wego is rookie. I belive that honda's are good at their engine quality and wego have very good sepcs (bigger tires, telescopic suspension all these with lesser price) please some one suggest which one should i go with my heart or my brain

Please go in for the Activa, you need to decide what your brain tells in such cases. This is not a girl for your heart to come into the picture! Your brain is working perfect as its making the right choice.

Honda is the most reliable manufacturer ever and has proven itself in India. So don't think further you will never regret your decision. And do let me know what you purchased.

Cheers

Go with your heart. And enjoy the ride. Wego is a nice scooter, but to all accounts, appears to behave a bit like a Fiat in terms of niggles. But it is all part of the fun of following your heart and ... well, living life!

Have you test driven both the scooters, what has been your feeling about the ride quality, handling etc? Why havent you tried Swish or Rodeo or Maestro? Dont get confused with the brain vs heart logic, think about which scooter meets your requirement, also look at the after sales service available closest to you.

Would suggest take a second test drive of the options shortlisted, no harm in reassuring yourself about your decision. All the best.

I think your heart and mind both are on the Activa. Wego is just too tempting a choice to ignore and hence in the short list. I would suggest you buy the Activa and live peacefully with it.

Yes it has ruled the kingdom come since a decade but there has been no improvements except for combi brakes and the 110cc engine for the entire decade. Nothing on the suspension front, tyres etc. Even when they had the opportunity to do so with the launch of new Dio, Honda did not launch it with telescopic forks and bigger wheels.

Wego on the other hand is a fresh product with everything that you can wish for ready from the factory. Plush ride quality, frugal engine as per reports on t-bhp, good grunt to pull 2 people etc. But there are a few lemons which find their way into a certain lot of vehicles which spring up niggles galore. (this can happen to any vehicle but the frequency of reports on the Wego is a tad higher hence included this point).

Try both of the scooters again and go with what you finally like. All the best and do let us know what you decide.

Re: The Gearless Scooter Thread

Guys which is the best tyre for the scooter, I mean the standard size 90/100 or 3.5-10. The one which is excellent on grip cos that is what matters the most on a scooter - grip.

I am in the same boat as you. Looking to buy a gearless scooter by this month end. But my dilemma is between 3 scooters Swish, Activa, Wego. Do keep us updated on your final choice. If you dont mind can you share the break up of the above on road price ?

I have one of those all round guards on my Hero Honda Pleasure. An all-chrome/steel variety, it has started to rust at the joints, the bolts, specifically and now spreading to other areas.

Apart from that and the super squeaky suspension/breaks, I am very satisfied with the scooter. Sufficient pulling power with 2 onboard , easy and light for the ladies , decent FE (though have never measured it) , and (hopefully) troublefree mechanicals.

The list of criteria which i follow when i have such conflicting scenarios are taking a sheet and noting down the below points for each one and evaluate not in any particular order...
1. The VFM factor, the goodies in each model. ( I am an Indian afterall)
2. The Mileage ( in this case both scores almost equal)
3. Distance to the service center from my home/workplace.
4. The Friendliness & expertise of the service people. (This info can be got from the existing customers/friends)
5. The reliablity of the engine/electricals.

In order to avoid this, had got the anti rust applied on the steel guards in monsoons during the promotional acts by the workshop and inadverently the workshop guys used to apply some on the metal body too, so this monsoon avoided any promotional anti rust from the workshop and thankfully no rust observed.

Trick is to buy a really good quality guard, i have spent Rs2200 for a steel guard which comes with a 5 year anti-rust warranty.

You are right about the all round guard. I jumped the gun when writing that post assuming @white-rabbit is an experienced rider. If you have experience riding different bikes/scooter, you will not need the all round guard unless you are parking in very tight spots always!
60 kms is a good enough distance to test a seat, nice to know you like it.

I never wanted to fit all round guard since it was spoiling the looks, but still decided for it and its been a good decision.

You never when it can come in handy.

I am sure you have never been to pune, else you would surely fit a guard on your scooter. The way they park on some roads ,even this guard is not enough.

Re: The Gearless Scooter Thread

I have the Wego and I can vouch for it . The activa is so over hyped . And what Honda reliablity are we talking about here ? Arent TVS scooters reliable . I have had this scooter for over 2 years now . Almost 20 K kms done with absolutely ZERO rattles . The only issue was with the Wego battery which was 4 Amp battery . A lot of people complained about this battery and the issue was eventually resolved by upgrading he Wego to a 5 Amp battery . The current Wegos all come with the same battery as the Scooty , a 5 amp battery ,

THis scooter is absolutely smooth . YOu get a glove box in front and also under seat storage .

The mileage figures are very good . $0 km/l even with the worst driving style .

And like Activa , I dont have to wait in queue for my scooter service . My friends who own the activa tell me horror stories about being treated like trash , when they go for servicing . MIght be a diferent story elsewhere but here in Pune people do get treated badly at the honda stations . They just dont have the man power to work on so many scooters.

$0 km/l is absolutely stunning I must say! Even for a Wego. Does your scooter run on water or air?

Just pulling ur leg.

Re: The Gearless Scooter Thread

I have an end-'02 model Activa. Nothing wrong with it but since it has been 10 years, I'm getting ideas to replace it. Yesterday, dropped in at local Honda dealer to check out new Hondas and am surprised to hear that Activa is more expensive then Dio. When did that happen? Because back in '02, it was other way around. I chose boring looking Activa back then just to save a few thousand rupees. But now, I'm grinning from ear to ear.
