I used to service the bike at bajaj SC at every 2500 -3000 kms with oil change which i'm following religiously.
The chain and sprocket was replaced at 25k kms.
Disc pads and front disc hose is not available at the SC,they have only the newer type , which i'm not sure will fit.
There is no covered parking space at my office .even though i park under shades , it is in bare soil and the rains will make the whole bike muddy.
For me cleaning the bike everyday is not possible ,even weekdays will be busy.
@black12rr, new exhaust cost somewhere around 4k,so i'm trying to get it repaired.
No, tank is not peeling only from the engine block.

3.Clean the carb , the diaphragm in carb would have lost its form , replace on inspection - 300 Rs .
4.Replace engine oil - 200 Rs .
5.Replace both the plugs , just 65 rs each .
6.Check the front and rear sprokets , if its stock still at 35k ,better replace it . Replace the entire kit ( front ,rear sprokets and chain . 700 Rs )
7.Check front disk pads ( 120-140 rs pair ) and rear drum brakes ( 120 -140 rs ) . Replace .
8.Exhaust has to be changed . -

Replace only with Bajaj genuine parts

Do this and it should be back to stock . I see dents and scratches are common with usage .

Where is the tank pealing pics ?
Bullboy, I totally agree with black12rr here. It looks like she is desperately in need of some TLC. Cosmetics should be your last priority. Get her running the way she should. In addition to what black12rr has suggested, I would like to add the following. Instead of a complete restoration, a fine combing will be enough.

9) Replace the air filter.
10) Get the compression checked. This would give you an idea about the power loss.

Also, even if the exhaust costs 4K, save up and replace it. Local repairs will never last. It seems to be rusted through and most probably the baffles would also be damaged. Exhausts in new gen four strokes seem to rust earlier because they run much hotter, and have no lubrication (like in 2 strokes). It would not hurt to add a tiny amount of 2T oil every few refills.

Please take care of her!

Dont worry. Many things depend on the way you maintain your bike.

I dont think anybody repairs the exhaust nowadays. They simply replace it.

I hope you are using 20w50 oil. Most Bajaj service centers are putting 20w40 in all pulsars.

Rusting has also started in my 180's exhaust at the rear end. I am planning to replace it with the 200/220's exhaust. The service center guy gave me a quote of 7K for new one and about 3.5K for second hand (although I do not understand how they get second hand exhausts). Still thinking about it.

Would 20w40 cause some problems, My p180 has been regularly been topped with 20w40 .

@ bullboy,Extremely sorry for hijacking your thread.
Also, i too have the similar problem of lack of punch and engine paint peeling off. Mine is a 2006 Model p180 with 11K on the Odo, the reason for the low mileage is that i had been abroad for close to 2.5 years and the bike was never used during this period.

Also, would the 2 year hibernation have caused any damage to the bike. I did replace the battery and drained the complete engine oil/fuel tank.

Should i be looking at changing any other parts. There are no percievable vibrations or noises or "engine missing" that i can detect. But i do find a difference in the top end whack and acceleration.

Also, would changing to K&N give me acceptable performance and accoustics .( I want to change the exhaust sound to something more throaty/Growl)

Are there any good reliable mechanics in TVM whom i can show the bike to.

@Toro,

I think u need to do proper lubrication of parts and need to do check Carb/ filter as it might be clogged. Also change the fork oil as well as brake fluid.
20w40 is not recommended for 180 you should stick to 20w50.I could find only castrol, veedol and valvoline in this spec but i heard motul is also available.
Till now i used to give the bike at Deedi and do nothing useful rather than a wash and an oil change. Now i gave the bike to guy near to my house and he did a pretty good job.
I had not taken the bike to long ride yet as my insurance got expired.Need to ride and see.
If going for K&N ,you need to rejet , karima jet should be apt one though this is not available with any of the HH dealers in TVM . I placed an order for one.Yet to receive a call. But i don't think any drastic performance improvement but the engine will run bit more cooler.

The exhaust was repaired and will hold for some time till a new one arrives .Welded with a new pipe and filled glasswool ,end sealed with suzuki end cup.
Pics attached.

Tell the service guys to spray paint using the black can available with them on your engine fins. That will do the work. At most the expense should be 25-50 rs or if u can get hold of such a painting can u do it yourself. I got this done from my service guys TVS. Rest dont spend money unecessarily after aeisthetics instead spend on internals like clutch plates,pads,discs,etc... already expalined in above posts.
