RE Bullet - Same Chassis and Engine number???

Today, I went to see a 1978 Royal Enfield Bullet 350 for my cousin. The bike was superb, but when I checked the RC book and insurance papers, I found that the Chassis and Engine numbers were the same!!! The owner insists that it is like that!!! Should we go ahead with the purchase? My cousin has to transfer this Pune-registered bike to Delhi. Will this create any probems? Help me out guys

As far as I know the frame and engine no. should match, three of my Enfields do.

@elan23 - You mean to say that the chasis Number = Engine number in you Bullet?

The chassis number starts with B, then number eg 172766 (not the actual number), then 8 C or G (not sure) X.
The engine number is also: 172766.

mine has the same i have a 1977 bullet. and transfering the Pune to delhi may be a problem. cause offlately the vehicles that are 15 years or older are not being registered in delhi. but yes he certainly can ride it around if he has a proper RC, insurance and a polution and it does not matter whoes name they are on.

another question is your cousin not able to find a bike in delhi?

I think it is possible. My ikon has the same chasis and engine number though there are more numbers and alphabets in the chasis number as in your case.

No, he has been hunting for quiet some time in Delhi. He told me that Delhi bikes don't have authentic parts (read Punjab spares). And this bike is an army bike, green in colour and the owner is asking for only 30K
