Car service & repairs - Pai Auto (Santacruz, Mumbai)

Pai Auto

Services offered:
•All kinds of automobile service & related repairs

What I like:
•The place is well staffed.
•The owner of the place does a final check himself even for the petty stuff, such as wiper replacement, horn, etc.
•Apart from having the relevant diagnostic tools, they have been working on imported cars since forever, so repairs on most current day cars sold in India will mostly be a walk in the park for them.
•Whilst the charges aren't exactly cheap they are fairly reasonable.
•Main road location is a boon.

What I don't like:
•Due to their work efficiency and fair business practice they are packed on almost all days, would recommend taking an appointment for any major work.
•Parking space is in short supply, at a time they can work on maximum 5 to 6 cars within their available parking area.

What I have Bought / Replaced from them:
•Accelerator cable & tune up for our Maruti Zen back in 2004
•Power window winder replacement (out of stock at the Skoda service centre)
•Horn & wiper replacement for Hyundai I10
•Suspension diagnosis (which the Hyundai service centre could not fix) inclusive of lower arm replacement for our Hyundai I10

To each his own. My experience with them.

A clutch overhaul at them cost me ~13k. 3 years later I got a new clutch and a new flywheel all for ~14.5k from another garage. At Pai only the clutch was changed. So they are definitely expensive and I would peg their prices closer to an authorized service station. The damage they did - not only did I lose a good clutch, but also screwed the flywheel which I changed last month. When I had gone to ask about the juddering in the car, the gentleman owner turned his back on me stating that it will go away in around 500kms. It remained for the next 40k kms till I got fed up and got a new flywheel.
