Means it would cost as much to maintain a 20L car. Service costs, spares and running costs would be on par with a 20L car. And since you are buying used, and being out of warranty, be ready to shell out money from your pocket from the starting of your ownership. if you can afford it, no issues.

I have a thumb rule: If you can afford a car bought new, then you can afford it bought used as well. If you can't, stay away.

Thanks. I am factoring the increased service & accident spares costs into my calculations. Actually there is a debate going on between ourselves as to whether to go in for the Ecosport now and buying a new AWD-AT SUV (100% cash down) in a couple of years, or replacing the Ford Fusion with a used Outlander and then doing a final reshuffle a couple of years down the line. Whichever way you calculate, the approx cash outflows are comparable. Only the intangiables now need to be analysed.

I am also very much aware that I do not need a AWD SUV but very much want one!!

Thanks Damodar for pointing me to the document. Even I reached this first thing in the morning and I found the same.

What is that actually? The tolerances for oil filling with and without oil filter?

Anurag.

Anurag/Domodar,

As soon as I woke up this morning, pulled out the dipstick and found engine oil much much more than the allowed notch.

I have attached the picture here for you guys to provide your expert comments.

Totally disgusted by Ford service. Really.

Ask them to completely drain the oil and then refill 3.4 litres since engine oil filter will not be replaced this time. This tendency to overfill engine oil is a malaise effecting all the dealerships. I found out this at the local Toyota dealership where an Innova's engine oil capacity is 7.5 liters but they tend to fill it with 8 litres.

Go to the ASC and drain the oil totally and fill only the required quantity (ONLY 3.4 litres) and do this when your are beside the car. Do NOT accept if they don't let you be near the car.

Overfilling the engine will have adverse effects on the Turbo charger and its functioning along with the turbo seals and the other issue is 'churning' will happening when the oil is over-filled.

Always remember to check the oil level after over-night parking or after a long time gap once the engine was shut down so that all the oil in the engine comes and settles in the oil sump so you get the correct reading.

I had a similar issue with the coolant levels (with a new EcoSport) I had them come to my residence to correct it. Of course it required a few calls and some snaps being sent to ford.

Dear Friends
After a tough talk and a visit to the ASC and after repetitive denial by them that it as per Ford's specifications they have added 4.6L, they nowdrained and added 3.8 L with the drip stick showing the correct level.
But this is really bad. At first they kept on arguing that it is not over filled. Then I showed them the service book and dripstick snap which I took in the morning and then they agreed.
They again flushed the ECU firmware to v6.8 and the car is back with a super agile pickup.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed so that again this issue of heavy drive does not come over. I somehow if this issue comes again, Ford should change the ECU itself as after this re-burning of Firmware to ECU, the car has again become super quick and wow to drive.
Special thanks to Damodar and Anurag for their catch and the subsequent advise. Kudos to both of you and our forum. clap:

Good that the car is back in performance as it should. Congrats!

Please remember to keep a check on the engine oil quantity. It can preserve the engine and also kill the engine. Be careful! :)

Keep all the documents and snaps of over-filling, ECU firmware updates so that if the problem surfaces again the you can demand an ECU replacement with these proofs.

Did they replace the engine oil filter too? If not 3.4 litres is to be filled, check that again.

if anyone has installed these or planning to - pls share experience/ installation procedure

I got the cosmetic repairs done on my Ecosport from my trusted workshop, dedicated a whole day to it.

At first the person tried to disassemble the driver’s door from the inside (to fix the dent from inside). He unscrewed 2 hexagonal allen nuts from the bottom edge, removed the silver strip and found another set of nuts there. He removed the glass beading from outside to check the inner section of the door after rolling the window glass down and found that there was another metal plate (it’s a Ford;)) behind the main sheet, so dropped the plan of further disassembling the door from inside and started to work on the dented portion from outside.

After the mechanical work of denting was the paint match time, which was done automatically, through the booklet of colour shade codes of cars. He covered all other parts with newspapers and tapes, and performed the paint process of the whole door with a gun. After 2 hours of letting the paint dry the job was done. :Cheering:

Charges: 1500 bucks

Pros:
The finish is great. The shine is superb. One wouldn’t even know that the door had a dent.
The paint match was perfect as stock.

Cons:
I miss the transparent clear coat and its reflective look (though the transparent layer is still underneath the new coat).

Can I get the reflective look back through Car Detailing or is it possible to get a clear coat done from somewhere?

Talking Car Prank

The comedy festival is on in Melbourne and to get into the spirit Ford Australia loaned a new EcoSport to the comedian and impressionist Anil Desai. Take a look to see his entertaining Urban Discoveries around town.

Thanks Anurag for the catch. I'm keeping a daily record of how my car is behaving.

No they did not replace the engine oil filter this time and hence now only 3.4 added.

After the clutch bleed and the right engine oil quantity the car has become much agile to drive, but still with AC sometimes the car becomes super sluggish in gears 1-2-3. Very disappointing. My only issue is that the same car drives so light and zippy and someday it does not drive the same quick and light. This intermittent behavior basically is really making me feel something is really wrong. Don't know if this a common feature will all diesel cars and particularly with Ecosport.

I have told Ford today that I cannot tolerate this anymore. In case they are unable to find a root cause of this issue then they should think on grounds of replacing the car or the total chassis.

On second thoughts I'm under pressure from my friends to sell it off and go for some Japanese brand as the cars from them are much more reliable and also brands are very receptive to customer complaints. Really I never thought I would be at such a stage just after 6 months of buying the vehicle.

I am still having doubts on the turbocharger and its seals working. Can you get that checked by plugging the diagnostic tool and to know what is the boost pressure it develops or if you know any BHPian in your city who had a ELM 327 OBD 2 reader can help you out faster.

When on the move do you sense the spooling up of the turbocharger?

There could be an issue with the EGR valve too.

Anurag.

So, after driving the Ecosport extensively for a while(4k km), i am still unable to get it to track the road like how the Ikon and the Fiesta(classic) handled it.

The handling aspect has been tampered with, but the rough road package that comes with a Ford has been retained.

In short, you need to brake hard at the sharp corners, but not for that broken tarmac.

I am getting around 20 kmpl with sub-100 speeds.
